Research and Technicus

The Research Tower and Technicus are two buildings that permanently enhance your empire. The Research Tower unlocks permanent technologies for the army, economy, and tools. Technicus improves the quality of your equipment. Both are one-time investments that then function continuously.

Research Tower and what it unlocks

The Research Tower is a military building that you can build starting from level 6. Each researched technology is permanent and you will never demolish the building, only store it in the relic inner district. You pay for research with resources from the kingdom, coins, or possibly rubies.

  • Level 1 (from player level 6): basic research and key technologies, research speed 100%.
  • Level 2 (from level 30): advanced basic research, military and economic.
  • Level 3 (from level 45): advanced research and primary research of plans, speed 120%.
  • Level 4 (from level 70): research of plans, veteran and relic units, speed 140%.
  • Level 5 (Legendary level 410, after research in the Hall of Legends for 2000 sceats): speed 160%.
  • Level 6 (Legendary level 815): speed 180%, research of advanced manuals.

What can be researched in the tower

The technology tree is broad and covers almost everything that helps you in combat and in the economy:

  • Military researches such as Elite Training, Marching Formation, or Forced March, which speed up marching and improve units.
  • Economic bonuses for resource production.
  • Special researches for buildings, such as Ambulance Coach, which increases the capacity of slots in the infirmary.
  • Veteran and relic units are unlocked and leveled through the Research Tower.

Later research tables (from 2020) have moved to the Hall of Legends, where relic buildings, units, and tools are unlocked for sceats.

Improving equipment at Technicus

Technicus is a building where you permanently increase the quality of your equipment for coins or rubies. Each item can be upgraded a certain number of times before reaching its maximum. The higher the rarity, the more steps:

  • Common equipment: 3 upgrades.
  • Rare: 8 upgrades.
  • Epic: 12 upgrades.
  • Legendary: 16 upgrades.
  • Unique: 20 upgrades.

You can only upgrade non-relic equipment, but including equipment from the Rift. Relic items do not belong in Technicus.

Chance of success and costs

The key point is that with each subsequent level, the chance of success decreases. The first upgrade costs 170 coins with a 100% success rate. Then it goes down: 2nd level 86%, 5th level 47%, 10th level only 17%, and the last 20th level has a miserable 2%. Costs also increase, at the 20th level it is 27,680 coins or 29,680 rubies.

The good news: if the upgrade fails, you lose nothing, you just paid for the attempt. Occasionally, a special offer appears that significantly reduces the upgrade cost in rubies.

Pro player tipIn the Research Tower, first pull military technologies for marching speed and combat, as they will pay off immediately. In Technicus, upgrade with rubies mainly when a special offer with a discount appears.
Common mistakeInvesting expensive rubies into high levels of common or rare equipment in Technicus. The chances drop so sharply that for legendary and unique pieces it makes sense to push high, but for lower rarity, it's better to exchange the equipment for better ones.
