Frequently asked questions
The questions new and advanced Goodgame Empire players ask most often, answered short and to the point. Type in the search box and the questions filter as you go.
How do I get veteran units
Veteran versions of the basic soldiers are unlocked by research in the Research Tower, which you can build from level 6. The research replaces the spearman, archer, crossbowman, maceman or swordsman with a stronger version that costs more coins and eats more food. Later projects do the same for the halberdier, longbowman, two-handed swordsman and heavy crossbowman, and further research levels make those units even stronger. Event veterans such as the Veteran Sabre Warrior are not researched, you only get them as a reward.
What does renegade mean on a unit
The renegade tag marks the player version of a unit that otherwise only exists as an NPC defender of enemy camps and towers. The Sabre Warrior or the Desert Archer defend the towers in the Burning Sands and cannot be recruited, while the Renegade Sabre Warrior and the Renegade Desert Archer are recruited in your barracks. The game explains it as freed renegades joining your army to pay their former brothers in arms back. On this wiki the NPC version carries a label saying it cannot be recruited, and only the renegade version appears in the rankings.
How many units fit on the walls and in the courtyard
There is no single fixed number, the game shows it right in the defense screen as the defender capacity of the walls and of the courtyard. The base comes from your wall level and you raise it with castellan equipment and gems, construction items, decorations and Hall of Legends skills that add a percentage or a flat number to the wall limit. Anyone who does not fit on the walls stays in the castle and defends the courtyard, so extra defenders are never wasted.
When does beginner protection end
While the protection lasts no other player can attack you or send spies, saboteurs or plague experts at you, and they see at your castle how long they have to wait. You end the protection yourself the moment you attack another player or send them support, and the game asks you to confirm it first. You also cannot open your gate during the protection. The remaining time appears when you hover over the protection icon above your castle.
How does the military hospital work
You can build the military hospital from level 6 and upgrade it to level 11. Soldiers who are wounded rather than killed in battle end up in the hospital, where you heal them for time and a price, or all of them at once for rubies. Without a hospital, or with a full one, the wounded are lost, so watch the free slots and dismiss the wounded you do not need. A higher level raises the capacity and also the minimum share of defenders who fight again straight away after a defensive battle without healing.
Why can I not send an attack
Most often you have no free commander, the game says you have no free commanders available to start this attack. The number of commanders comes from the Military Camp, which you build from level 2 and upgrade up to level 15, each level raising the maximum. You can hire one extra commander for a single attack, and every army you send costs a few coins. You also cannot attack from a castle that is relocating, or attack a player who still has beginner protection.
Where can I play Goodgame Empire
The easiest way is the browser, the Play online button on this wiki starts the game with no installation. On phones and tablets the same world runs as Empire Four Kingdoms from Goodgame Studios, and during crossplay events on the event server browser and mobile accounts play against each other. If you want a desktop client, the game is on Steam as well.
How do I log in and what if I forget my password
Your account is with Goodgame Studios, you register in the game itself with an e-mail and password, or through Facebook, which only works on empire.goodgamestudios.com. A forgotten password goes through the Forgot password link on the login screen, the game sends it to the e-mail on the account, so keep that address current. A real Goodgame Studios employee will never ask you for your password, and neither does this wiki.
How do I move my main castle
In the castle management menu you pick a free castle spot or a ruin, where the game shows when it will be deleted and freed up. The move takes 24 hours, during which you cannot attack or send resources from that castle, it cannot be cancelled, and you cannot start it while you have soldiers, scouts or trade carts outside. Outposts do not move, they stay where they are. After an invitation from a friend your first move to them is free, every further one costs rubies.
How do I get rubies without paying
Rubies drop with the loot after you beat robber barons, barbarians and cultists of level 3 and above, you get them for tasks and from the daily Ruby Treasure for being active in the game. You also get a one-off 500 rubies for subscribing to the newsletter once you confirm the e-mail. More arrive from event rewards and alliance rewards in the invasions. Ruby hacks and generators do not work, they only put your account at risk.
Is it worth joining an alliance
Yes, mainly because of the events. Both the Nomad and the Samurai invasion count points for the whole alliance, and every member who takes part gets the rewards, including those for the alliance treasury. Your alliance mates also help you with construction, recruiting, healing and repairs with a single click, the Trade Center raises food production for all members, and the alliance runs wars and peace talks with the others.
What is the Nomad invasion
During the Nomad invasion, nomad camps appear across the Great Empire. Attacking them earns you Khan tablets, which you exchange for units and equipment in the nomad shop, and Khan points for your alliance, which unlock alliance rewards. A camp you have attacked has a cooldown before you can attack it again. There are special tools for the camps, such as the fire ram and the trunk ladder, which cut the gate and wall defense, but you cannot use them against player castles.
What is the Samurai invasion
The Samurai invasion works much like the nomad one, except General Akechi’s samurai camps arrive in the Great Empire. Taking them earns you samurai tokens and bushido points, alliance points unlock rewards for every member, and the best alliances earn the Samurai Scourge and Samurai Conqueror titles. The rewards include the Defiant Katana Warrior and the Defiant Master Archer. Tools such as the Shogun Ladder and the Shogun Ram help against the camps and are useless anywhere else.
How does the Battle for Berimond work
The Battle for Berimond is played in a separate event kingdom, which you enter with a simple, veteran or war camp, and the resources for it are shipped from your main castle. You fight for one of two factions, Leopold III or Grimbert of Ursidae, and you earn valor points for looting and taking player camps, villages, towers and the capital. In the training grounds you call up auxiliary troops, which eat no food but only last until the end of the event, and their wounded do not go to the hospital. Once you lose your last camp you just watch the rest of the battle.
How many commanders and castellans can I have
Commanders live in the Military Camp, which you build from level 2 and upgrade to level 15, each level raising their maximum number. Castellans live in the Burgrave’s office, available from level 13 with only three levels. A commander leads every army you send out, a castellan sits in the castle, and the castellan of your main castle also commands the defense of the town. You give both of them equipment and gems, and you assign a general to your defense and to your commander on top of that.
How do I speed up research in the Research Tower
Only one project runs in the tower at a time, you start the next one once it finishes, and some projects require another research first. The speed goes up with upgrades of the tower itself, with the University, which you build from level 6 and take up to level 20, and with the Genius and Thirst for Knowledge researches. A running project can be finished instantly for rubies, though that rarely pays off on cheap researches.
