Turtle ram – Goodgame Empire

Turtle ram

Offensive

A great support tool for breaking strong castle gates — targeted and effective where the gate is a weakness in the defense, but only as part of a balanced setup.

Quick overview

TypeOffensive

The battering ram with a roof is a classic siege battering ram, but that roof makes a difference — it significantly reduces the defender's protection of the castle gate. This is exactly what you need when your attack is breaking against a heavily fortified gate. I consider it a reliable asset: it doesn't perform miracles against walls or towers, but for breaking through an entrance, it's one of the best tools you can have in your setup. Those who ignore it will be surprised why their attacks bleed on the front line of defense.

How to use it

Deploy it where you are attacking the gate — that is, at the part of the defense that it can weaken. It is pure support: it doesn't kill units, it only reduces the defender's protection of the entrance, allowing your attacking army to pass through with much smaller losses. It makes sense mainly against castles with reinforced gates, where you would otherwise lose half your army. You don't need it as much against lightly defended targets; there, pure strength will suffice.

What to combine it with

It belongs to an attacking setup focused on the gate, ideally alongside other siege tools that reduce the protection of walls and towers — this way, you break the defense comprehensively, not just one piece of it. Pair it with strong attacking units with high attack on the relevant side, which will then break through the weakened entrance. By itself, it won't win the attack. Don't forget about tools and units for the other two sections of defense; otherwise, a hard wall or tower will stop you, even if you break the gate.

Pro player tipBefore you attack, take a look at the layout of the target's defense — if the gate is significantly stronger than the rest, the battering ram with a roof is exactly the tool that will push you over the victory line. However, don't blindly shove it into every attack: it's worth having a separate 'anti-gate' setup and pulling it out only for castles with really tough gates.
Common mistakeThe most common mistake is to throw the battering ram at a target where the gate is not a weak point — you won't utilize the effect on the entrance protection and will just waste space in your setup. Another classic: relying solely on the battering ram and forgetting that the defense also has walls and towers. While you may break the gate, the defender will still crush you on the remaining sections if you don't have a way to deal with them.
