The ram is a siege weapon with a single, yet precise task: to break through the gate. No flanking maneuvers, no tricks, it simply crashes into it and opens the way for you inside. You will mainly encounter it with foreign lords and the Ravens, who send it against you, but nothing stops you from using it just as effectively against them. Consider it a reliable key to enemy gates that won't get you stuck right at the entrance.
How to use it
Always reach for it when you know that the defense of the target stands and falls with the gate. Typically, this is the case with the Ravens and foreign lords, where the gate is a tough nut to crack, and without it, the defense collapses. You will include the ram in your assault wave, and you can be sure that you will get through the entrance, no matter how reinforced it is. Conversely, don’t waste it on targets with weak or exposed gates; there, regular units are enough to open it, and you should save the ram for the moment when you really need it.
What to combine it with
On its own, it will only win you the battle for the gate, not the rest of the defense. Therefore, it must be followed by the main striking force that will finish off what stands behind the gate. Assemble a complete wave around it: attacking units against the defenders, additional siege engines for the remaining fortifications, and the ram as the specialist for the entrance. It functions as one specific piece of the puzzle, not as a standalone attack solution, and its strength will fully manifest only in conjunction with an army that can handle the defense inside.
