The Rotating Shield is a siege tool that significantly reduces the strength of defenders at range. Simply put: it weakens enemy archers and towers that shoot arrows at your troops. The catch is that you can only use it against samurai camps, so it is completely useless outside of this faction and you won't see it in regular campaigns. However, within the samurai content, it is one of those tools that allows you to lose significantly fewer units on your way through the walls.

How to use it

Deploy it purely against samurai camps where strong ranged defense is holding you back. Include it in your attack when you know that the opponent mainly relies on ranged units, and you want your attacking force at both range and close combat to reach the gate with minimal losses. Use it as part of a full assault wave, not on its own.

What to combine it with

It belongs to the attacking setup against samurai alongside other siege tools that address the rest of the defense. The shield takes care of reducing the strength of defenders at range, so complement it with tools or units that cover close defense, and rely on the type of soldiers that have an advantage against the specific gate. Pair it mainly with enough ranged attacking power, as that is where its effect is most significant.

Pro player tipBefore you attack, take a look at the target. It pays to have at least a rough idea of how strong the opponent's ranged defense is at the given gate. This will help you determine whether the shield makes sense or if you would be better off filling that slot with another tool. Without at least basic scouting, you are playing blind and can easily miss.

Common mistakeThe most common mistake is trying to use it outside of samurai camps, where it simply does not work and the slot is wasted. Another classic is relying solely on the shield and forgetting about close defense, so while the ranged defenders may fall, your army will be cut down by the close defense at the gate. Always treat the shield as one part of the setup, not as a solution in itself.
