Rune ram – Goodgame Empire

Rune ram

Offensive

An event siege tool for converters that reduces gate protection and saves you troops - valuable, but only in the right attacking setup and against sufficiently tough targets.

Quick overview

TypeOffensive

The rune battering ram is a special siege tool that you exclusively deploy during the Converter Attack. Its purpose is clear: it reduces the defender's gate protection, allowing your troops to suffer fewer losses when breaching the front walls. It's not something you would take into regular campaigns against neighbors - it's purely an event-related item and only makes sense in this context. By itself, it won't kill anyone, but it opens the way for the rest of the army, and in converter maps, where every soldier counts, it can significantly reduce the attack cost.

How to use it

Deploy it in the siege slot when attacking Converter targets with high gate protection. The harder the gate is sealed with defense, the more beneficial the reduction will be - against a weakly defended target, you won't get as much out of it. It mainly makes sense where you are dealing with the front flank and want your infantry and attacking troops to pass through the gate with minimal losses. Outside of the event, you won't even get it into your setup, so consider it a tool that you reserve exclusively for converters.

What to combine it with

It belongs to a full-fledged siege set - combine it with other tools that reduce defense or increase attack so that the effects work together and the gate collapses. It pairs excellently with battering rams and siege engines targeting the front flank, plus with bonuses that strengthen your attacking army. Complement it with a suitable commander and troops with strong attack on the gate, so that the reduced protection yields real gains. A battering ram by itself without support from the rest of the attacking setup is a wasted slot.

Pro player tipKeep rune battering rams stored and deploy them specifically against the toughest converter targets, not against the first weak gate you encounter. The reduction in protection is more beneficial percentage-wise against heavily defended walls, so where you would otherwise lose a lot of troops, one battering ram will save you more units than ten easy attacks. Always check before the attack that you are attacking through the front flank - otherwise, you will miss the effect on the gate.
Common mistakeThe most common mistake is to throw it into regular attacks outside the event and wonder why it does nothing - it works exclusively during the Converter Attack. Another classic: a player deploys it, but the rest of the setup does not have an attack aimed at the gate, so the reduced protection helps no one and the slot is useless. And thirdly - wasting it on weak targets where you would have succeeded even without it, instead of saving it for properly defended gates where it actually saves troops.
