Rolling shield – Goodgame Empire

Rolling shield

Offensive

A pure specialist against the ranged defense of nomads. In the right ranged lineup, it's great; outside of nomads and outside of range, it's completely useless.

Quick overview

TypeOffensive

The mobile shield is a siege tool with one clear job: it significantly reduces the strength of ranged defense. No magic for every attack, but a narrow specialist. And it has one hard limitation, you can only use it against nomadic camps, you won't budge it anywhere else. Either you know why you're taking it, or don't cram it into your lineup.

How to use it

Deploy it where the defender mainly relies on ranged defense, which you will often encounter with nomads. Before you attack, take a look at the composition of the target's defense. If ranged units dominate, throw the shield into your lineup and place your ranged units around it. Once the ranged defenders are weakened, your own archers and siege equipment will get through with much fewer losses.

What to combine it with

It belongs to a purely offensive nomadic lineup built on range. It works best in the company of other tools that pressure ranged defense or boost the attack of your archers, and commanders with bonuses to ranged attack against nomads. The logic is simple: the shield takes away the defenders' ranged strength and your ranged units then finish off the rest. In a close combat lineup, it just takes up a slot, so leave it out.

Pro player tipLearn to categorize nomads based on their predominant defense and adjust your lineup and tools separately for each type. Instead of one universal party that you drag for everything, prepare a variant for ranged camps with the shield and a variant for close combat without it. You will save yourself from recalculating losses and only include the shield where it actually works.
Common mistakeThe biggest mistake is to cram the shield into classic castles and villages of other players. It doesn't work there at all, it is strictly tied to nomadic camps, and you waste a slot unnecessarily. Keep this limitation in mind before you plan your entire attack around a tool that won't activate for you at all.
