Grim's shield

Offensive

A solid siege tool for a ranged offensive setup. It reduces the enemy's ranged defense, allowing your archers to hit harder and saving you troops - but only if you deploy it where the opponent is truly defending at range.

Quick overview

TypeOffensive

The Deathbringer's Shield is a siege tool that reduces the value of the enemy castle's ranged defense. Don't be misled by the name - it doesn't hold a shield over your troops. It does the exact opposite: it weakens what the opponent uses to defend at range, allowing your own archers to deal more damage while the defenders fire less effectively at you. By itself, it doesn't break or kill anything; it simply opens the way by cutting down the shooting power on the other side. For an attacker who takes enemy castles with archers, it is one of the essential tools in the backpack.

How to use it

Deploy it on a wave where the defender has an advantage in ranged defense. Typically against castles and camps loaded with archers or against fortified positions with a lot of towers. It only works on the specific wave you place it in, so throw it where the enemy's ranged defense is hindering your progress the most. Against an enemy who relies mainly on close combat or has weak ranged defense, it is useless - there you are reducing a number that doesn't bother you anyway.

What to combine it with

It belongs to a purely ranged offensive setup, where you send your own archers. You reduce the defense of exactly the type that your troops are fighting against, so every hit from your archers lands harder. Combine it with tools that increase your archers' attack or break down walls, so you have the offensive side fully covered. In a full setup, it is the piece that disarms the enemy at range while the other tools add striking power. You won't capture a castle by yourself; it is a team player.

Pro player tipBefore deploying it, look at the defense of the target and compare what the opponent is really relying on. Save it for castles where the ranged defense really hurts you and where it will significantly reduce your losses. A few ranged tools saved over a day can save you a lot of troops in total, so don't waste them on attacks where they have nothing to reduce.
Common mistakeThe most common mistake is to throw it into every attack out of habit, even when the opponent's defense is focused on close combat - the shield will then reduce a number that doesn't solve anything anyway. The second classic mistake is to deploy it while attacking with close-range units: you weaken the ranged defense that your troops don't even deal with. The type of attack, the type of enemy defense, and the type of tool must all fit together; otherwise, you are wasting the tool unnecessarily.
