Grappling hooks

Offensive

A silent siege helper that is worth it wherever strong walls are holding you back, but only in hand with a solid attack behind.

Quick overview

TypeOffensive

Siege hooks are a siege tool that you always draw when you are bothered by the defender's strong walls. Their job is clear: they significantly reduce the level of wall protection, allowing the rest of your attack to get through much more easily. The hook itself does not give you any extra points, but by weakening one of the main defensive layers, it opens the way where otherwise the attack would have ended at the wall. I consider them one of those inconspicuous tools that quietly decide the outcome in the background.

How to use it

Always deploy them when attacking a target with well-upgraded walls, typically against advanced players or well-defended targets where a pure attack without support is not enough. Place the hooks on the wave and the side where you really intend to break through, so the effect occurs exactly where you need it. The higher the level of walls your opponent has, the more sense it makes to load hooks as one of the first things in the composition. Keep them for targets that cannot be breached without support.

What to combine it with

They belong in the composition together with other siege tools that address the remaining defensive values, paving the way for each other. Combine them with strong attacking units on the same side, because simply reducing wall protection is of no use if you do not send enough attack behind the hooks to take advantage of that help. It works as a team: hooks reduce wall defense, and units finish the rest.

Pro player tipCheck the defense of the target in advance and dose accordingly. If the opponent has walls upgraded to the maximum, do not hesitate to pour hooks where you plan the main breakthrough, and keep the rest of the waves lighter. This way, you save tools and concentrate power on one spot instead of spreading it thin across the entire attack.
Common mistakeThe most common mistake is throwing hooks at targets that have no proper wall defense and then wondering why the attack did not go any better. Another classic is placing hooks without accompanying sufficiently strong units; you reduce wall protection, but you have nothing to capitalize on it, so the effect fizzles out.
