Folding ladder – Goodgame Empire

Folding ladder

Offensive

A basic siege tool against samurai camps - significantly reduces wall protection, but only works against them and is only worthwhile as part of a complete attacking setup.

Quick overview

TypeOffensive

The ladder serves a single purpose - to reduce the wall protection level, and this exclusively against samurai camps. You cannot use it for anything else; it won't open any regular castle or other target. However, against samurai camps, it is a tool that significantly lowers the defense of the fortifications and clears the way for the rest of the attacking army. If you regularly attack samurai, consider it a staple of your siege equipment.

How to use it

You deploy it in attacks where strong walls are hindering you and causing unnecessary losses to your fortifications. The tougher and better-defended the camp, the more worthwhile it is to use the ladder, as its sole purpose is to bring down the defensive bonus of the walls so that your attackers do not face the full strength of the walls. You don't need to use it against weakly defended or nearly empty targets - you can push through the attack without it, and you would just waste the tool.

What to combine it with

The attack alone will not win; it is one piece of the puzzle. The ladder addresses the walls, so complement it with tools for the rest of the defense - against enemy units and any traps or artillery. Most importantly, bring enough attacking units with it so that the reduced wall protection has someone to take advantage of. Without a proper attacking force behind you, the removed fortifications alone will not lead you to victory.

Pro player tipHave a stock of ladders prepared in advance, not just when you are standing in front of a strong camp. In serial attacks on samurai, tools are consumed quickly, and gathering them in a hurry can be a problem. At the same time, do not overdo it with the number in one wave - the goal is to get the wall protection to a level that your army can handle, not to cram in more ladders than necessary and waste them.
Common mistakeThe biggest mistake is trying to use the ladder on something other than a samurai camp - it doesn't work elsewhere and just takes up space in your setup. A second classic is to deploy it against a target where the walls are not actually a concern, wasting it where it was not needed. And thirdly: relying solely on the ladder without the support of other siege tools and units - removed walls won't help you if you don't have anything to carry the attack through.
