The Elite Shield Spiked is a siege tool that you should have in your backpack for every major campaign against castles. Your siege units primarily die from the fire of defenders on the walls, and this shield specifically dampens that fire - it reduces the strength of defenders at range, allowing more of your soldiers to reach the gate alive. The bonus on top is a higher gain of glory points, which will be appreciated by anyone keeping an eye on the leaderboards and seasonal events. Experienced players consider it one of those tools that are always useful - it's not a luxury, but a standard when you want to attack effectively and not just push through with brute force.

How to use it

Deploy it during attacks on player castles and on targets where you are hindered by strong ranged defense - where you know that archers, crossbowmen, and similar units are shooting from the walls against you. It pays off the most on better-defended targets; don't waste it on a weak, almost unprotected castle. The tool slot is limited, so take it when the reduction of ranged defense will realistically save the lives of attackers. And since it also increases glory points, it is ideal to include it in attacks during glory events and competitions where glory counts - you will get double the benefit from one slot.

What to combine it with

It belongs to the classic attacking siege setup along with tools against close defense (mantlets, battering rams, etc.) - this duo covers both aspects of defense and the attack will go much smoother. It complements well with tools that strengthen your ranged attacking units, because then you attack strongly exactly where you have reduced the defenders' strength. If you are participating in a glory event, combine it with other bonuses for glory points to maximize the benefit from each successful attack. Choose a commander who enhances ranged attack - it fits well with the effect of the shield.

Pro player tipKeep a stock of these shields purchased in advance and systematically deploy them on every attack against a well-defended target - the difference in the number of surviving attackers will accumulate over dozens of attacks into a huge saving of units. And save them for the right moments: during glory events, you will extract the most from them, as the bonus for glory points truly determines your ranking.

Common mistakeThe most common mistake is to throw this shield at everything without thought, even at targets where defenders have almost no ranged defense - it will bring you nothing there and you will just waste a tool that would be useful elsewhere. The second classic mistake is to completely forget about it and attack only with a numerical advantage, thus unnecessarily losing a lot of soldiers to fire from the walls that you could have easily dampened.
