An essential backbone of the economy - build early, build multiple, and continuously upgrade.

The lumberjack is your source of wood, and without it, you won't get anywhere in the game. You need wood for everything - from basic buildings to production buildings and fortifications - so this unassuming economic building keeps your castle afloat. On its own, it's boring, but underestimate it, and you'll always be waiting for materials to accumulate for your next building.

When to build it

Build it practically right away. It is one of the very first buildings you want to have in your castle because you need wood from the first minute. It's better to build several of them as soon as you have the space and stone for construction - one lumberjack won't be enough in the long run. The size of 5×5 does take up a decent spot, but the production is worth it.

Is it worth upgrading?

Definitely yes, it's worth it. Each level increases wood production, and since you are constantly consuming it, you'll get a return on that investment. However, prioritize according to the phase of the game: at the beginning, a broader base will give you more resources than one upgraded piece, so first upgrade all lumberjacks to a similar level. Save high levels up to eleven for later, when your economy is running and you want to match the consumption of large buildings and fortifications.

Pro player tipWatch your ratio of lumberjacks to stonemasons based on what you are currently building - early buildings mainly rely on wood, so have a surplus of it. Use time-limited boosts for wood production, especially before a big wave of buildings, so you don't have to wait. And if you have a surplus of wood while your building queue is stalled on stone, switch priorities and invest in stonemasons until consumption balances out.
Common mistakeThe most common mistake is to build only one lumberjack and then wonder why you always lack wood. People also unnecessarily max out one piece instead of having several lumberjacks at reasonable levels next to each other. And don't forget to properly assign workers to it and apply bonuses - without them, it operates at a fraction of what it could produce.
