The Keep

Economic

The backbone of the estate's economy, which you should always keep at maximum, as it speeds up construction and adds storage space for more resources.

PriorityPriority in upgrading

The castle is the heart of the estate and one of the few buildings that is worth upgrading practically all the time. The main draw is the construction speed; with a higher level, everything else will grow significantly faster, and it will also add storage space, so you will accumulate more resources before they start overflowing. It's not a flashy building to look at, but it is the economic foundation that every other building and upgrade on the estate benefits from.

When to build it

You have the castle on the estate from the beginning, so you don't have to worry about whether to build it, but rather how quickly to upgrade it. This should be one of the first things you address. The sooner you push it to a higher level, the faster the entire subsequent construction will run, and the less it will hold you back from the rest of the estate. The priority is high because the effect carries over to everything else you build and upgrade.

Is it worth upgrading?

Definitely yes, upgrading is worth it at practically every level up to the maximum (8). Each level reduces the waiting time for other buildings, so you feel the return immediately and continuously. Don't let the castle fall behind the rest of the estate; it's a typical building where it's not worth saving and keeping it unnecessarily low while everything else around it grows.

Pro player tipConsider the castle a constant priority during every major upgrade cycle and keep it at the highest level you can afford based on your progress. It pays off to have it high, especially before you embark on a longer series of buildings or upgrades, because the higher construction speed will make everything go significantly faster. Investing here indirectly speeds up everything else.
Common mistakeThe most common mistake is neglecting the castle and pushing up flashy military or decorative buildings instead, while the castle remains low. Then you wonder why every upgrade takes an eternity and the entire construction drags on. Another classic is not keeping track of what level your castle actually is and letting it stagnate for too long, even though a higher level would significantly speed up everything around it.
