Farmhouse – Goodgame Empire

Farmhouse

Economic

A necessary foundation of the economy - without food in the positive, you cannot recruit or maintain an army, so build the farm early and keep it upgraded.

Quick overview

CategoryEconomic
Max level10
Size5×5
PriorityBuild early

The farm is your basic source of food, and without it, you cannot recruit an army or maintain your population. In the castle's economy, it is one of the fundamental buildings - every unit and every worker consumes food, so the production from farms determines how much army and population you can afford. By itself, it is not an entertaining building, but it is the quiet workhorse on which your entire army stands. The more people and soldiers you want to have, the more food you need from farms.

When to build it

Build early. As soon as you start having more than a few units or your population is growing, food consumption will spike, and the farm must cover it. It is among the first economic buildings you place in the castle. However, keep in mind from the beginning how much space you will dedicate to the economy - 5×5 is a considerable chunk, and there is always a shortage of space in the castle.

Is it worth upgrading?

It is worth it because each level increases your food production without taking up additional space - and space in the castle is always more precious than resources for upgrades. Keep your farms upgraded so that food production covers consumption with a surplus. Once your food drops into the negative, upgrading farms is one of the cheapest ways to free up space for further recruitment instead of building a new 5×5 building.

Pro player tipDon't just monitor the current food balance, but plan ahead based on how much army you want to have. Before launching a large army recruitment, check if your food production can handle the additional consumption - otherwise, your recruitment will stall due to a food shortage. And remember, you can also increase food production through castle decorations and various bonuses - often it is more efficient than building another farm.
Common mistakeThe most common mistake is underestimating food and pushing consumption higher than production can handle. Negative food will not destroy the soldiers you already have, but it will halt everything else - you won't be able to recruit new units or keep up with population growth until you balance it out. The second mistake is cramming the castle with too many farms - once you have food comfortably in the positive, an additional farm just takes up space that would be better used for more important buildings.
