Stone quarry – Goodgame Empire

Stone quarry

Economic

An essential foundation of the economy that will limit you throughout the game, so build it early and upgrade it diligently.

The quarry is your source of building stone, so without it, you won't get very far. Wood from the sawmill is great at the start, but stone is what holds you back with all higher buildings and castle upgrades. Honestly? It's one of those buildings you'll start to complain about over time because there's never enough stone. But that's why it is a backbone of your economy.

When to build it

Build it as soon as the game allows you to, and keep a reasonable ratio between sawmills and quarries based on what you will be building. In the early phases, you mainly consume wood, but stone will start to run out faster than you expect once you begin larger renovations and defensive buildings. It's better to have a stockpile in advance than to stand by a building under construction and watch the stone indicator hit zero.

Is it worth upgrading?

It's definitely worth upgrading, as stone is a long-term scarcity and the footprint of 5×5 takes up space anyway, so make the most of that area. Upgrade steadily as your resources allow, and don't let the quarries lag behind the rest of the castle. Pushing it to the highest levels makes sense mainly when you already have plenty of ongoing projects that consume stone. You'll reach the maximum level 11 only later, but consider it a natural goal.

Pro player tipKeep an eye on the ratio between wood and stone production and adjust it based on what you are currently building. You can also supplement stone from the alliance market, events, or resource packs, so if you have a large project coming up, don't hesitate to supplement the quarries instead of waiting days for production. And if the buildings with production bonuses allow it, build them to cover as many quarries as possible at once.
Common mistakeA classic mistake is to fill the castle with sawmills and forget about the quarries because wood is the priority at the start. Then you wonder why every renovation takes forever due to the lack of stone. The second mistake is to leave the quarries at a low level while you push the rest of the castle up; that imbalance will catch up with you sooner or later.
