Stonemason

Economic

A great stone multiplier, but only when you already have a larger number of quarries running; otherwise, it's a waste of space.

The Stonecutter is a purely economic building that increases the productivity of all stone quarries in your castle. No decorations, no style, just a stone machine. If you have a lot of stone quarries built in your castle, the Stonecutter gives you a percentage bonus to their production, so the more quarries you have, the more it pays off. It does not extract stone by itself; it only multiplies what you are already producing.

When to build it

Don't rush to build it in the first few days. As long as you have one or two stone quarries, the bonus from the Stonecutter is tiny, and you would be better off investing the space and resources into the quarries and residential buildings themselves. It starts to make sense when you have a larger number of quarries running and you start to lack stone for higher upgrades of buildings and walls. At that point, the Stonecutter is often a cheaper way to get more stone than building another quarry in a spot you are missing.

Is it worth upgrading?

It pays off, but with caution. Since it is a percentage bonus, each additional level will give you more stone the more quarries are running in your castle. If you have few quarries, it is not worth pushing the Stonecutter to the maximum; the return on investment is poor. However, when you are running at full capacity and stone is your bottleneck, gradually upgrade the levels up to the maximum (max is 6). Do this gradually, only when you have more quarries, not in advance without resources.

Pro player tipThink of the Stonecutter as a multiplier, not as a source. Before you invest a level into it, check how many stone quarries you actually have in your castle and how much stone they produce. It pays off to synchronize: build a batch of quarries, then raise the Stonecutter by one level, maximizing the output from both. With a size of 6×9, it takes up a decent amount of space, so plan it where it won't disrupt the layout of your production buildings.
Common mistakeThe most common mistake is to build the Stonecutter early and immediately push it to high levels when you only have a few quarries in your castle. A few percent from a small production is just a few stones, wasted resources, and space. The second mistake is the opposite: you completely forget about it, happily continue building quarries, and wonder why you are lagging behind your neighbors who have their bonuses maxed out.
