Sawmill – Goodgame Empire

Sawmill

Economic

A strong multiplier of wood production - it pays off when you already have a solid base of lumberjacks and huts to enhance.

Quick overview

CategoryEconomic
Max level6
Size6×9
PriorityMedium priority

The sawmill itself does not produce anything - it is a multiplier. It increases the productivity of all lumberjacks and forest huts in the castle, so its value depends on how much wooden production you already have running. With a fresh castle and two huts, you won't get much out of it, because it works in percentages and a small base results in a small number. However, once you have a decent wooden base, it can significantly boost your wood production. Think of it as a building that enhances what you already have, not as an additional resource.

When to build it

Don't rush to build it as your first building. First, build enough lumberjacks and forest huts so that the sawmill has something to multiply - without them, the percentage bonus practically gives you nothing. When you start hitting the ceiling of wood production and want to push it further, it's time for the sawmill. Keep in mind that it takes up a large area of 6×9, so make sure to leave space for it in your castle layout in advance, so it doesn't obstruct you later.

Is it worth upgrading?

The return on each level increases with the number of production buildings that the bonus affects. With a large base of lumberjacks and huts, even one additional level can yield significantly more wood, while at a small castle, higher levels take a long time to pay off. Therefore, keep the level of the sawmill roughly in line with your wood production growth. Pushing it to the maximum (6) prematurely means paying for levels that have nothing to multiply.

Pro player tipScale the sawmill and lumberjacks together as one package. Before you raise the level of the sawmill, consider whether building another hut might bring you more - sometimes a larger base production beats a higher percentage from little. The truth is, the sawmill itself takes up a large area of 6×9, so do not think of it as a space saver. However, compared to expanding purely through a lot of new huts, it allows you to get more wood from what you already have, which you will especially appreciate at the main castle, where all buildings compete for space.
Common mistakeBe careful about pumping the sawmill to a high level while the number of lumberjacks remains the same - you are paying for a multiplier on little. And remember, the sawmill only boosts wood. It has no effect on stone, food, or other resources, so do not consider it a universal economic building, but purely as support for the wood branch.
