The Olive Grove is a purely economic building that produces olive oil for your castle. You don't need oil from the first minute, but as you progress, you'll encounter it in advanced productions and with more expensive goods, where you can't move forward without it. The grove itself is definitely not the backbone of the economy; it's more of a quiet worker in the background that you build once and then don't worry about.
When to build it
You don't need to rush with it. In the early stages, you're dealing with defense, wood, stone, and food for the army, and oil is not crucial at that time. Build it when oil starts to genuinely hinder your progress and when you have already resolved living space and basic resources in your castle. It takes up a 5×5 block, which is quite a significant space in the castle, so think carefully if you really need that space for something more important right now.
Is it worth upgrading?
Higher levels will increase your production without sacrificing additional building space, which is nice for a 5×5 building. However, before you start pouring resources into the upper levels, check your storage: if you have a pile of oil and can't spend it fast enough, chasing the maximum level doesn't make sense. Instead, direct your resources into producing what you are actually running low on.
