Merchants' storehouse – Goodgame Empire

Merchants' storehouse

Economic

A useful defensive economic building that you will appreciate when they start plundering your castle, but don’t rush into it at the very start.

PriorityMedium priority

The Merchant's Warehouse is your insurance against attackers plundering all your resources during a raid. It significantly increases the capacity of your wood and stone storage, so much more resources will remain safe above the limit. It’s not a building you’re excited to construct, but when someone robs your castle, you will appreciate every protected unit. The more wood and stone you have stored in the warehouse, the less the enemy will take from you.

When to build it

The main reason to build it is to protect resources from being plundered. Once you start being regularly attacked by other players and you’re losing wood and stone, prioritize it higher. The second issue it addresses is the actual storage capacity: when you start accumulating resources for larger buildings and expansions, you will hit a ceiling and any excess above the limit will stop increasing. In the very beginning of the game, when you have few resources and no one is raiding you, you don’t need to worry about it. Consider that protection against raids and an increased ceiling go hand in hand, but it is mainly the looting that gives it priority.

Is it worth upgrading?

It is worth it, but with caution. Each additional level significantly increases the protected capacity, so if someone is actively raiding you or you are storing large supplies, feel free to go up to the maximum level 3. If you are playing calmly on a weaker server without aggressive neighbors, often a lower level is sufficient, and you should invest your money and time elsewhere. Decide based on how many resources you are actually holding and how often you lose excess.

Pro player tipThe warehouse only protects resources up to its capacity, so if you have a large surplus above the limit, it’s better to spend it on buildings or troops regularly, so that attackers don’t take it from you. Don’t rely on the warehouse to protect everything completely; account for what exceeds the protected limit and try not to hold onto it unnecessarily long.
Common mistakeThe most common mistake is that players ignore the warehouse and then do not understand why they lose a lot of resources after each attack. The second misconception is the opposite extreme: upgrading it to the maximum right at the start when you still have nothing to store, unnecessarily blocking resources that would be useful for production buildings. People also often forget that it only protects wood and stone, not everything else.
