The Hunting Lodge is an economical building for anyone who maintains a large army at their castle. It works simply: it reduces the food consumption of all units parked directly at this castle. It doesn't add a single sword, but it allows you to support more people from the same farm production. Think of it this way: the larger the crew you keep at the castle, the more the lodge pays off. With a few dozen soldiers, the savings in absolute numbers are small, but with a packed castle full of swords and bows, it saves you a significant amount of food.
When to build it
Don't rush to build it at the beginning. As long as you have a few dozen soldiers and a surplus of food, it's wasted space on the map. It makes sense when you start hitting the ceiling of food production and need to figure out how to feed the army you want to keep at home permanently. Build it when your castle is truly settled and you start counting every unit of food. Until then, it's better to invest space in production and military buildings.
Is it worth upgrading?
Upgrading is only worthwhile when you maintain a large standing army. The savings are calculated based on the number of soldiers stationed at the castle, so each additional level digs deeper into the consumption of the entire crew. If your castle is packed with units, feel free to go up to higher levels, as the benefit multiplies across many swords and bows. However, if you only have a symbolic crew, keep it at a low level and invest your money and resources elsewhere, as the return would be poor.
