Vampire bats – Goodgame Empire

Vampire bats

A Halloween defender weakener for heavy attacks on fully garrisoned castles. Save them for the wave hitting the strongest section of defense and pair them with breakthrough equipment—that's where they'll make the biggest hole.

Quick overview

Unholy Bats are a Halloween offensive tool. According to the in-game description, they drain blood and fighting spirit from the bodies and souls of enemy defenders—in player terms, they weaken the target's defenders before your troops even reach the walls. You get them in the Halloween event, so you always have a limited supply and need to use them accordingly. They won't conquer a castle on their own, but they can shift the balance of power in your favor.

How to use it

Deploy them on heavy attacks against player castles and heavily defended targets, not on camps you can roll through without them. Send them in the wave you're pushing into the strongest section of the defense, because weakening defenders has the biggest impact in that decisive clash where the most enemy units are concentrated.

What to combine it with

Bats weaken defenders but do nothing to walls, gates, or moats, so you still need a battering ram in the front section, ladders on the sides, and possibly boulders for the moat. Pair them with tools that boost your attackers' strength, like the War Horn, and a commander tuned for offense. Don't put them in a defensive setup—they have no effect there.

Pro player tipScout the target before sending them. Bats pay off most when the defender relies on a large number of troops on the walls; against an empty or lightly garrisoned castle, they're just wasted event currency. Keep track of how many you have and spread them across attacks that actually matter to you—you can't refill your supply outside the event.
Common mistakeThe most common mistake is scattering them on the first target you find, on weak camps, or into defensive setups. The second classic is taking them against a target where you're not slowed by defenders but by the fortifications themselves. That's where you need the battering ram and ladder—bats won't break through empty walls.
