Quick overview
Torches are a helpful combat tool that increases the attack strength of melee units. The catch is that you can only deploy them in nomad camps, so they are not a universal tool for every attack, but a specialist for this one thing. If you are attacking nomads and building an offense around melee units, it provides a decent bonus without having to change your entire setup.
How to use it
Deploy them in an attack on a nomad camp where you are building an offense around melee units. The logic is clear: the more strength your melee units have, the more of the defense they can handle. They are especially useful for higher-level camps that are just on the edge for you, where every bonus counts for your attack. If you are going purely with ranged units or building an attack around ranged combat, torches are of no use to you, as they do not strengthen ranged units.
What to combine it with
They belong to a setup based on melee units, not ranged units. Combine them with commanders and tools that also increase melee attack to get the most out of your melee units. It pays off to align them with units that you have an advantage in your attack. Conversely, mixing them into a mixed attack where half is made up of ranged units is a waste of capacity, as the bonus will only work on part of your units.
