Invader mask – Goodgame Empire

Invader mask

A narrowly focused defensive tool against archers - it fits well with Ravens and archer setups, but on its own, it won't protect you. Consider it a supplement, not a foundation.

Quick overview

The Raider's Mask is a defensive item against ranged units - it shatters arrows, causing archers to lose much of their strength against you. It is worn by foreign lords and Ravens, who heavily rely on archers, but you can easily use it against them as well. It is a narrowly focused piece - it does one thing and does it well, just don't expect it to cover your entire defense.

How to use it

Use it when you expect an attack or defense based on archers. Arrows shatter against it, significantly reducing the firepower of your opponent's archers. It is useful in castle defense because you don't know the exact composition of the attack in advance, and archers are often the backbone of most setups. In attack, you will appreciate it the other way around - when you are attacking a defense full of archers, the mask will dampen their shooting before you even get within range of the defenders.

What to combine it with

It only addresses one category of units - arrows - so always combine it with something that covers the rest. In a defensive setup, pair it with standard defense against melee units to ensure you have all directions covered and the opponent has nowhere to dodge. In attack, use it alongside tools for breaching walls to reach the defender, while the mask will reduce their archers' effectiveness in the meantime.

Pro player tipAlways check what your opponent is relying on. The mask is great against purely ranged setups, but if the opponent hardly uses arrows, it's a wasted slot. Prepare it in advance for battles against Ravens - they love archers, so it pays off the most there.
Common mistakeThe most common mistake is treating the mask as a universal defense. It only shatters arrows - it has no effect on melee units or battering rams. A player equips it, feels secure, and then gets crushed by an attack that the mask simply does not counter. Think of it as one piece of a puzzle, not as a whole wall.
