Crystal ballista – Goodgame Empire

Crystal ballista

A narrowly focused helper for demon attacks that knocks defenders off the walls and clears the way for the rest of the setup. A specialist in one thing - outside of its role, keep it in your inventory.

Quick overview

The Crystal Catapult has one single purpose - to knock enemies off the walls, and it works exclusively against demons. Don't confuse it with regular siege engines; you won't use it in classic PvP or against NPCs. It is purely a tool for demon events. My opinion? A useful little gadget, but as long as demons are not currently active, it sits idle in your inventory.

How to use it

Deploy it when you are attacking demon targets and are hindered by defenders on the walls. Its job is to get these units down from the ramparts, so you deploy it in the attack exactly where the occupied walls are pressuring you the most. The denser the walls are occupied, the more it pays off - you don't need to bring it out against bare walls.

What to combine it with

By itself, it won't win anything - it is a supporting piece alongside your main siege engines and attacking units. It serves them by knocking defenders down and clearing the way for your striking tools. Build a full-fledged attacking setup around it and consider it a supplement, not the core of the attack.

Pro player tipKeep it aside and bring it out for those targets where the defense on the walls bothers you the most. If you know in advance which heavily defended targets you are going for, you can plan how many of these catapults to send into the attack - it makes no sense to waste them where you can get through without them. Plan your deployment based on wall occupancy, not habit.
Common mistakeThe most common mistake is to shove it into regular attacks and wonder why it does nothing - outside of demon targets, it is just dead weight in the setup. The second mistake is to rely on it as a main weapon. It only knocks defenders off the walls, but the actual damage and conquest must be done by your other units and machines. Without them, the catapult alone won't accomplish anything.
