Bubbling cauldron – Goodgame Empire

Bubbling cauldron

A thematic defensive add-on to spice up your defense. As an added layer against balanced attacks it's nice, but don't build your main defense on it.

Quick overview

Bubbling Cauldron is a Halloween defensive tool. The foul stench of the potion made from frog eyes, according to the game description, sends even the most resilient attackers fleeing, so it basically boosts your castle defense against the army that comes at you. You don't craft it in the Defense Workshop—you get it in the Halloween event, so it's more of a spice for your defense if you like thematic pieces than its backbone.

How to use it

Deploy it when you're preparing your defense, that is, before the attack arrives. Defensive tools are positioned in advance on walls, gates, and ditches, and after the battle is evaluated you can't do anything with them anymore. It makes sense mainly against balanced attacks where the attacker is on the edge and every bonus to defense can decide the outcome. Against a weak raid that you'll repel without it, don't bother placing it.

What to combine it with

Include it in your defensive composition alongside tools that boost fortification protection, like Portcullises on the gate, Tar Sprayers on the walls, and Flaming Ditch, and add proper defensive troops with high defense. The cauldron is one of several layers stacked on top of each other, not a replacement for them.

Pro player tipLeave it on bases where you're not playing for everything, like on secondary castles or against raids you want to brush off without wasting stronger tools. Save expensive defensive pieces for your main castle and battles where percentages matter, and use the cauldron where it would be a shame to burn something better.
Common mistakeThe most common mistake is relying on the cauldron as the main defensive element and skimping on defensive troops or stronger tools because of it. The second trap is taking it into an attack composition thinking it will send attackers fleeing—it only works in your castle defense.
