Tavern

Military

Useful support for active reconnaissance and PvP, those who do not fight can easily do without it.

The Tavern is a military building with the function of spies - thanks to it, you can send more spies on missions at the same time. It does not attack or defend by itself, but good reconnaissance often saves you an entire army: before you set out to attack a foreign castle, you check what awaits you behind the walls, how many units are stationed there, and whether it is even worth attacking. For me, it is a building that I only remember when I start dealing with players around me - until then, it remains aside.

When to build it

At the start, don't worry about it. As long as you are developing your economy, collecting resources, and ramping up production, you don't need any spies, and the Tavern would just block space. It starts to make sense when you engage in PvP - you are preparing attacks on other players, keeping an eye on your surroundings, or you want to defend smartly and not blindly. The more actively you fight, the sooner you should build it; if you are just sitting quietly and not poking anyone, you can wait.

Is it worth upgrading?

Pushing levels up is only worth it if you are actually sending spies. Each level increases your capacity, allowing you to cover more targets in succession or send a stronger expedition at once. Do you only send spies occasionally? Then a lower level is more than enough, and you should rather invest resources into production or defense, where you will notice them more. Pushing the Tavern to the max (level 10) only makes sense for those who are seriously spying and consciously investing in reconnaissance.

Pro player tipBefore every major attack on a player, thoroughly check the target - there is no point in sending an army blindly when a spy can show you in advance how much defense is there. A higher capacity from the Tavern allows you to scout more targets in quick succession, so you can choose the most advantageous one and not waste units on a castle that you won't break through anyway. Reconnaissance is the cheapest unit in the entire game - one good scout can save you dozens of fallen soldiers.
Common mistakeThe most common mistake is to build the Tavern early and immediately push it up, even though you hardly send spies - it takes up six by six squares, which is not insignificant, and you will spend resources that are sorely needed elsewhere. The second mistake is the opposite: you want to check on the enemy before an attack, but you hit the capacity limit because you either didn't build the Tavern at all or left it at a few levels, and now it's too late to catch up quickly.
