Defense workshop – Goodgame Empire

Defense workshop

Military

The backbone of any solid defense. Build it and, above all, keep producing in it, otherwise it is useless.

The defensive workshop produces defensive tools, which are the arsenal you place on the walls when someone attacks you. Without it, you go into defense practically bare-handed, and the attacker will easily defeat you. Together with the offensive tools workshop, it is one of those buildings that you will eventually get used to as a matter of course. The nice thing is that defensive tools protect your troops as a whole, not just one unit, so every piece produced counts towards every repelled wave.

When to build it

If you play at least somewhat actively and neighbors start testing you with attacks, build it as soon as possible. A defensive player should have it among the first military buildings, right next to the barracks and the defensive garrison that you actually equip with those tools. If you have hidden under the protection of a newcomer and no one is attacking you, you can postpone it a bit, but don't delay it indefinitely, because the first serious raid will come sooner than you expect, and producing a stock of tools takes some time.

Is it worth upgrading?

A higher level speeds up and reduces the cost of producing defensive tools, so if you often go into defense and consume them in large quantities, upgrading is worth it. For a more passive player, who repels an attack once in a blue moon, it is perfectly fine to keep a lower level and send the money elsewhere. Save the maximum level 4 for when your defense is actually consuming tools faster than you can produce them.

Pro player tipLook at the type of defense that your tools strengthen (walls, gates, towers), and combine it with how you have built your castle and what defensive units you assign to the commander, so you can maximize the output from each batch produced. It is also useful to produce multiple types of tools at once, rather than focusing on just one, because the attacker can target any part of your defense.
Common mistakeThe most common mistake is to build the workshop and then leave it standing with an empty tool storage. It does not protect you by itself; you must continuously produce in it and keep a stock ready in the castle before an attack comes. Another classic mistake is confusing defensive tools with offensive ones; you cannot substitute one for the other, so you need both depending on what you are currently doing.
