Sail Ripper is an NPC unit you'll never recruit - you'll only encounter it as a defender in pirate camps and towers during the Blade Coast event. That's why its speed, food consumption, and cost are all zero - it simply doesn't move and costs you nothing. What matters are its defensive stats: 125 against ranged and 51 against melee. You attack it, not the other way around.
How to use it
Your challenge is getting past it. A defense of 125 against ranged means archers and crossbowmen will just break themselves on a sector full of Sail Rippers, while 51 against melee is where it's weak. So when scouts show you large numbers of them in a camp, send melee units, not ranged. The event help text tells you pirates match the strength of halberdiers and longbowmen, which gives you an idea of the toughness you're dealing with.
What to combine it with
In pirate garrisons it usually stands next to a Plunderer, which has the opposite setup - strong against melee and weak against ranged. Before you attack, check your scouts to see the ratio on each flank, then split your wave so melee hits the Sail Rippers and ranged hits the Plunderers. Add attack tools that reduce melee defense and ladders or battering rams on the camp walls and gate so your infantry reaches the defenders with maximum force.
Weaknesses and what to avoid
Don't send a pure ranged wave against a sector with Sail Rippers - you'll just waste units against that defense. Don't try to buy or find it anywhere either, it's not a player unit and doesn't appear in any rewards. And don't expect to find only this unit in a camp - pirate garrisons are mixed, and a one-sided army won't cut it.
