Renegade sail ripper – Goodgame Empire

Renegade sail ripper

Offensive Ranged Special

A cheap attack archer with 144 attack for 200 and huge loot capacity, which is worth it mainly for resource raids and as the ranged component of a mixed wave. It has no defense and eats a lot of food, so keep it in action, not in the garrison. When the Blade Coast event offers it to you, take it—at that price it's a good piece.

Sail Ripper Scavenger is an attacking archer with 144 attack that comes to you as a reward from the Blade Coast event and also appeared in the summer collector event 2022. Unlike the pirate Sail Ripper from camps, this is your unit that you send into battle. Defense of 8 against close combat and 14 against archers is paper-thin, so it's a pure glass cannon in the attack wave.

How to use it

It belongs in the attack wave as the ranged component against targets where the defender has weaker ranged defense. At a cost of 200, an attack of 144 is a good ratio, so you can afford to gather more of them and send them in larger numbers. Speed 28 is the same as regular infantry, so you don't have to sync the wave in any special way. Watch out for the food consumption of 6 though, which is quite a lot for a unit costing 200, and if you have hundreds of them at home, you'll feel it in your supplies.

What to combine it with

The natural partner is the Grabber Scavenger from the same event, who will handle close combat. According to your scout report, split the wave so the ripper goes to the side with weak ranged defense and the grabber goes to the side with weak close combat defense. Add attack tools that reduce ranged defense and don't forget tools for walls and gates—archers have to get past them just like infantry. Always put a few units with higher defense in the wave with them to take fire from towers instead of them.

Weaknesses and what to avoid

Never put it in castle defense—with that defense it won't hold anything and the attacker will sweep it away in the first wave. Don't send it to targets with high ranged defense, its attack will just fizzle out there. And don't send it alone without close combat units—a defender with a mixed garrison will shred a pure ranged wave the moment it hits its zero close combat durability.

Pro player tipThe biggest trump card, which nobody talks much about, is loot of 90 per unit. That's a lot compared to regular attack units, so it's your ideal raiding unit for weakly defended targets, from which it will carry away full bags. When you go raiding for resources, give it priority in the wave over units with stronger attack but smaller capacity. On conquering heavily defended castles, on the other hand, save it—there attack and defense decide, not how much it can carry.
Common mistakeA common mistake is confusing it with the pirate Sail Ripper from camps, which has huge ranged defense, and putting the scavenger on the walls. The scavenger is something completely different—the defender won't get one. The second mistake is letting it sit idle in the castle instead of hauling resources, it just eats supplies and brings nothing back. And the third is sending it to castles where you can see from the scout report strong defensive archers—with its durability it won't reach the walls.
