Renegade kunai thrower – Goodgame Empire

Renegade kunai thrower

Offensive Ranged Special

A quality attacking ranged unit from the Samurai Invasion event. Attack 148 is higher than the Spear woman or the Crossbowman of the Elite Guard from the barracks, and speed 50 makes it faster than most special ranged units. Weak defense of 27 and 18 rules it out of castle defense, its place is in attack waves against targets with weaker ranged defense. If you have it, definitely use it in the attack, just handle it with thought, because you only get it from the event.

The Renegade kunai thrower is an attacking ranged unit from the Samurai Invasion event, where you earn it with samurai tokens and ranking placement. Like every ranged unit it attacks at range, and its attack 148 is more than the Spear woman (138) or the Crossbowman of the Elite Guard (129) from the barracks have. Its defense is weak, 27 against ranged and 18 against melee. On top come food upkeep of 4, a cost of 200 and a speed of 50, while for special attacking ranged units the most common speed is 28. All of these are base level 1 values before bonuses.

How to use it

In practice it belongs in attack waves as the ranged component of the army. Attack 148 pays off the most against a garrison with weak ranged defense, so inspect the target with a spy before the attack and adjust the ratio of ranged units to melee units accordingly. Against defenders with high ranged defense it will have a harder time, and there you should lean more on melee attack. Speed 50 suits quick raids, but the army moves at the pace of its slowest unit, so you'll only notice it if you don't tie it to slow units. Don't leave it on castle defense, 27 and 18 are not enough for the walls.

What to combine it with

It works best in a mixed attacking army, where it is complemented by strong melee units, attack tools and a commander with bonuses for ranged attack, which raise its base 148 further. The samurai camps are defended by the Katana warrior, who has only 34 against ranged, and the Bow master with 139 against ranged but only 35 against melee. The Kunai thrower therefore suits mainly camps dominated by Katana warriors. Where Bow masters dominate, send more melee units and keep the Kunai throwers in the minority. If you want to use its speed, put it together with other fast units, otherwise the army settles on the pace of the slowest one.

Weaknesses and what to avoid

Don't leave it in your castle's defense. Defense 27 against ranged and 18 against melee is too little for the walls, and there are units built for defense for that job. Don't send it alone without melee units at a target with high ranged defense either, a pure ranged wave would run into trouble there. And don't count on replacing losses easily. You get it only as an event reward, so every unit that falls in a bad attack hurts more than losses among barracks units.

Pro player tipBefore attacking a samurai camp or a player castle, first look at what ranged defense the garrison has. Where it is low, send Kunai throwers in larger numbers, where it is high, keep them in reserve and add melee units. Attack 148 is a base value before bonuses, so the final strength depends mainly on the commander and the gear you attack with. You'll appreciate speed 50 on short raids, when you want to be at the target as soon as possible, as long as you don't mix slower units into the army.
Common mistakeThe most common mistake is to let it sit on the walls as a defender. With defense 27 and 18 it falls there quickly against a stronger attack, while in the attack its 148 would do a good chunk of work. The second mistake is sending it at targets with high ranged defense and expecting the same result as against a weak garrison, where a ranged attack runs into trouble. The third is locking it into a slow army and then wondering why you get nothing from speed 50. And since it is from an event, don't waste it on targets where ordinary barracks units would do.
