Renegade desert bowman – Goodgame Empire

Renegade desert bowman

Offensive Ranged

A cheap versatile ranged unit for the middle phase. On the walls he holds against ranged units with defense 126, in attack he adds attack 94 and for 96 coins it is good value. He is weaker only against melee and he is slow, so pair him with melee defenders and do not take him on long expeditions.

The Renegade desert bowman is a ranged unit of the middle phase of the game that suits both attack and defense. He attacks from a distance with base attack 94, defends with 126 against ranged and 54 against melee. You unlock him in the Barracks at level 5 for 96 coins and he uses 4 food. A new player gets to him only after upgrading the Barracks, and until then the basic units will do.

How to use it

In defense, put him on the walls against attackers who send mainly ranged units, defense 126 is the reason he belongs there. In attack he adds attack 94 for 96 coins and carries 28 loot. After the Renegade Norseman bowman, his ratio of attack to price is the second best among the level 5 Barracks ranged units. Speed 25 holds him back, he is among the slower units, so for distant targets expect a longer march.

What to combine it with

The natural partner is the Renegade saber warrior. He holds with defense 137 against melee and has only 48 against ranged, the bowman is the other way round, so they complement each other in castle defense. Both have speed 25, so they go together in attack at the same pace. Against an infantry onslaught, add a tough melee defender to the defense, for example the Halberdier with 135 defense against melee. On the walls the bowman then holds against ranged units and the infantry against melee.

Weaknesses and what to avoid

Do not build the entire wall defense from him, an attacker with infantry will get through his 54 defense against melee. He is not suited to fast expeditions, with speed 25 he would hold up the whole army. And against heavily defended targets attack 94 is not enough as the main force, stronger ranged units belong there, for example the Crossbowman of the Kingsguard. If what your castle mostly lacks is melee defense, this bowman will not plug that hole.

Pro player tipIt pays to hold him as a versatile reserve. When an attack by ranged units threatens, leave him on the walls, and when it is quiet, send him at nearby targets where the slower march does not bother him. Compared to the Renegade Norseman bowman he is a bit stronger in attack (94 against 86) and in defense (126 against 119), but he costs 96 instead of 82 coins and is almost three times slower.
Common mistakeThe biggest mistake is treating defense 126 as universal. It applies only against ranged units, against melee he has a mere 54, less than half. Whoever builds the walls only from these bowmen will see them broken by plain infantry. The second mistake is leaving him only at home, attack 94 for 96 coins is decent and you are needlessly leaving it unused.
