Imperial marksman – Goodgame Empire

Imperial marksman

Offensive Ranged Special

A solid attacking ranged unit with attack 132 that keeps pace with the best ranged units from the barracks. Defense 17 and 26 doesn't make it a defender, it doesn't belong in a castle garrison. The cost of 305 and food upkeep of 4 are higher and you obtain it from special offers or events, so it is not regularly available. When you have it, put it in the attacking army against targets defended mainly in melee.

The Imperial marksman is an attacking ranged unit from special offers and events, and the game rightly lists it among attacking units. Its main number is ranged attack 132, which keeps it on the level of the best attacking ranged units from the barracks. Its defense is weak, 17 against melee and 26 against ranged, so it doesn't belong on the walls. Food upkeep of 4 and a cost of 305 put it among the more expensive units, so count on that when putting together your army.

How to use it

It belongs in the attacking army, not in the garrison. In battle the attack of ranged units is measured against the defender's ranged defense, so send it at targets where the walls are held mainly by melee defenders who have little against shooting. Spy on the target before the attack and split your ranged units between the wings accordingly. Speed 28 is common among attacking units, it keeps pace with the army, and loot of 32 per unit brings you resources after a won attack too.

What to combine it with

On its own it can't carry an attack, because garrison defenders usually mix melee units with ranged units. Complement it with attacking infantry that takes the wing with defending ranged units, while it pushes where the melee defenders stand. Attack tools and a commander with a bonus to ranged attack belong with that. The Imperial bowman has the same defense, a slightly lower attack of 124 and costs only 153, so you deploy both in the same way.

Weaknesses and what to avoid

Don't put it in your castle's defense. With defense 17 against melee and 26 against ranged it is only an expensive filler in the garrison and the defensive ranged units from the barracks beat it easily there. Don't send it alone at walls full of defending ranged units either, where it runs into exactly their strongest value. And since you only have it from special offers or events, don't waste it on weak targets where cheaper units are enough.

Pro player tipWhen choosing a target, look mainly at the ranged defense on the defender's side, which decides how much of attack 132 gets through. It shows the most against garrisons made up of melee defenders. If you have few of them, put them into one strong wave on one wing instead of spreading them thinly everywhere. And watch your food, 4 per unit adds up quickly in a larger attacking army.
Common mistakeThe most common mistake is to look only at the melee attack, where all ranged units have zero, and write it off as useless in the attack. It attacks at range and its real attack is 132. The second mistake is putting it on the walls just because it is a ranged unit and then being surprised how quickly it falls. The third is sending it blindly at targets full of defending ranged units.
