The Imperial bowman is a purely attacking ranged unit and attacks at range. Its attack 124 is the base level 1 value before bonuses, and for a cost of 153 that is a good ratio. Its defense is weak, 17 against melee and 26 against ranged. It is a unit for the attack, not for the walls.
How to use it
Send it in the attacking army as the ranged part of the wave. Attack 124 is measured against the target's ranged defense, so it does the most against defenders who rely mainly on infantry. For comparison, the Royal guard crossbowman from the barracks has attack 121 for 148 and the Imperial marksman 132 for 305, so the Imperial bowman gives a lot of attack for its price. It carries 29 loot, which suits plundering too. Food upkeep is 4 per unit, count on that with a large army.
What to combine it with
On its own it is one-sided even in the attack. Complement it with attacking infantry so that the defender has to cover both melee and ranged defense. The Imperial guard with attack 135, another special unit, is a fit for that. The infantry then pushes on the melee defense and the bowmen on the ranged defense. Add attack tools according to the spy report. It is a special unit from events, so you have only as many as you collect, and count on that when putting together your army.
Weaknesses and what to avoid
Don't put it in your castle's defense as a defender. With defense 17 against melee and 26 against ranged it is far below the defensive units, for example the Veteran bowman has 132 against ranged. Don't send it alone at a target with strong ranged defense either, where the attack shatters and only it takes the losses. Leave ranged defense to the units built for it.
