Glacial Amazon Archer – Goodgame Empire

Glacial Amazon Archer

Offensive Ranged Special

A solid specialist in defense against shooters with zero food consumption and defense that nicely scales with stars (+3 per star). Absolutely useless in an attack, but in a defensive garrison against enemy archers, it is among the better options you can have. As a unit from special offers or events, it is worth keeping and gradually upgrading for the defense of the main castle.

The Ice Amazon Archer is a purely defensive shooter, even though the game categorizes it under offensive focus. Don't be misled by this, as its attack is a flat 0, so it does not belong to any offensive wave. Its entire value lies in defense: 34 against melee combat and mainly 58 against shooters. The latter number is its main asset, as most common defensive shooters have lower defense against shooters, so this unit holds the wall against enemy archers and crossbowmen above average. This is exactly why you keep it in your defensive garrison.

How to use it

In practice, you place it exclusively in the defensive garrison of your own castle or camps, never in an attack. Its task is to repel enemy shooters, where its 58 defense makes the most sense, so when someone sends a wave of archers and crossbowmen at you, this unit keeps your losses down. Against melee attacks (swordsmen, axemen), it also holds decently with 34, but consider it a supplement, not the main shield. The food consumption is 0, so you can leave it in the garrison long-term without it cutting into your supplies. The speed of 34 for a defender is not something you need to worry about at all, as defenders do not move into battles, so that number is not relevant in its role.

What to combine it with

It works best in a mix with melee defensive units. It holds excellently against shooters on its own, but its weaker side (close combat) needs to be covered by quality melee defenders with high defense against melee combat. A classic composition is: these archers against enemy shooters plus tough swordsmen or pikemen against close attacks. Add defensive tools that you have unlocked, and the overall defense of the garrison will soar. In a purely shooting garrison, you can comfortably set it up as the backbone against shooting attacks.

Weaknesses and what to avoid

Never send it into an attack; an attack of 0 means it won't add any hits in an offensive wave and will just take up space. The second thing to watch out for: do not build defense solely from these archers. They can handle a purely shooting raid, but as soon as a strong close attack comes, they will fall on their own, as 34 defense against melee combat is only supplementary, not the main line. And do not consider it a universal unit for every situation; it is a specialist in defense against shooters, and that is where it should stay.

Pro player tipIf you are a new player, take its numbers 0/34/58 literally: zero attack means only for defense, high defense against shooters means keep it in the garrison against enemy archers. A big thing is leveling up stars: each star adds +3 to defense, so a fully upgraded unit is significantly tougher against shooters than the base version, and five stars will make it a solid wall. If you are considering where to invest stars, this unit will return that investment in defense. Zero food consumption is also nice; you can stack as many as you need in the garrison without threatening your supplies.
Common mistakeThe biggest mistake is believing the offensive focus label and sending it to attack. With an attack of 0, it is useless in an attack; follow the numbers, not the label. The second unnecessary step is investing stars in an attempt to make it a versatile unit; its contribution only grows in defense against shooters, and as an attacker, it won't function even with five stars.
