The Glacial Amazon Archer is an attacking ranged unit and the attacking label fits it exactly. As a ranged unit it attacks at range, and its attack 372 is the highest of all ranged units in the game, the nearest, the Renegade cave hunter, has 200. On top of that it consumes no food. Its defense is weak, 34 against melee and 58 against ranged, so it doesn't belong in a garrison and its place is in the attack wave. You could get it only for rubies in the Black Friday 2024 offer together with the other glacial Amazons, you can't recruit it in the barracks.

How to use it

It belongs in attack waves on foreign castles and camps. It attacks at range, so its 372 is measured in battle against the ranged defense that the defending garrison has. You'll get the most out of it against targets that stand mainly on melee defenders and hold little against shooting. Zero food upkeep means you can send a very large wave and your supplies won't be cut, even when the army sits at home between attacks. Loot 60 is the second highest value among attacking ranged units, so it suits resource raids too. Its speed 34 is the same as the Glacial Amazon Warrior's, which is handy when you send them together in one wave.

What to combine it with

It forms the strongest pair with the Glacial Amazon Warrior from the same offer, which has melee attack 390 and also zero food upkeep. The warrior pushes on the melee defense, the archer on the ranged defense, so the opponent can't rely on just one type of defenders. Add whatever attack tools you have to the wave, and before the attack find out what the target is defended with. Then set the ratio of ranged units to melee units accordingly, so you push where the defense is weaker.

Weaknesses and what to avoid

Don't put it in your castle's defense. With 34 against melee and 58 against ranged it holds much less in a garrison than ordinary defensive bowmen, for example the Veteran bowman has 132 against ranged. It is also a waste to leave a unit with attack 372 sitting on the walls. Don't send it at targets with strong ranged defense either, where its attack runs into the toughest part of the garrison and the losses will be needlessly high. When you know nothing about the target, scout it first.

Pro player tipThe numbers 372, 34 and 58 are base level 1 values, in battle they are raised further by bonuses. Zero food upkeep makes it a good core of an attacking army mainly for players who are chronically short on food. You can't easily get new units, because it could be bought in the Black Friday 2024 offer, so send it on attacks you have calculated well and spare yourself needless losses.
Common mistakeThe most common mistake is to look only at the melee attack, which is always 0 for ranged units, and declare it a defender. A ranged unit attacks at range and this archer's real attack is 372, so the attacking label is correct. The second mistake is locking it in the garrison because of the zero food upkeep, in defense it has only 34 and 58.
