Cave hunter – Goodgame Empire

Cave hunter

Offensive Ranged Special

The Cave hunter is a defender of the cave castles and camps in the Underworld. Its job is to stop your ranged units, and with defense 125 against them it is good at that, but against melee it gives way with defense 51. You can't get it into your own army, so treat it as an obstacle you solve with infantry and a correct split of the wave based on the spy report. If you want a similar unit in your own army, look at the Renegade cave hunter, the player version with ranged attack 200, which is built for attack, not for defense.

The Cave hunter is an NPC unit from the Underworld event. You can't recruit it or buy it, you only meet it as a defender of the cave castles and camps you attack. That is why its speed, food upkeep and cost are all zero. In the data it is listed as an attacking ranged unit with ranged attack 92, but for you its defense numbers matter, 125 against ranged and 51 against melee.

How to use it

For you it is mainly a question of what to get through it with. When conquering, your attack is measured against its defense, so the numbers 125 and 51 decide. Defense 125 against ranged means your attacking ranged units get slowed down a lot on a side full of Cave hunters, while defense 51 against melee is its weak spot. Against castles and camps where the spy report shows it in large numbers, send melee units with high attack and add tools for the walls and gate so that your infantry reaches the defenders with as much strength as possible.

What to combine it with

The same cave castles and camps are also defended by the Cave smasher, which is the reverse, 135 against melee and only 45 against ranged. Before you send the attack, check the spy report to see the ratio on each side, and split the wave so that infantry goes against the hunters and ranged units against the smashers. A unit with strong melee attack suits the hunters, for example the Renegade cave smasher with attack 216 from the Underworld shop.

Weaknesses and what to avoid

Don't send a pure ranged wave at a side full of Cave hunters, against defense 125 you will just lose units. Don't look for it in the offers or in the event shop either, it is not a player unit. And keep in mind that the same castles and camps are also defended by the Cave smasher, so a one-sided army will run into trouble on one side or the other.

Pro player tipIt pays to have both melee units and ranged units in your army and to decide on the split only after the spy report. Where the hunters dominate, push infantry with the highest possible melee attack, and where the smashers dominate, send attacking ranged units. You have the player version of this unit in the Renegade cave hunter, but that one belongs in the attack.
Common mistakeThe most common mistake is to go by its classification as an attacking ranged unit and send your own ranged units against it, because "ranged against ranged" sounds like a fair fight. Against defense 125 it is the worse choice. The second mistake is looking for it in the offers or the event shop, this unit cannot be obtained. The third mistake is forgetting that the Cave smasher defends next to it, and sending only infantry against everything.
