The Bear bowman is an attacking ranged unit of the bear faction from the Battle for Berimond event, where you receive it as reinforcement from your faction. It attacks at range and its attack 98 is the base level 1 value before bonuses, the same as the Veteran crossbowman. The game lists it as an attacking unit and the numbers match that. On top of that it has decent defense for an attacker, 129 against ranged and 54 against melee.
How to use it
In practice you send it in the attack wave as its ranged part. Attack 98 is measured against the target's ranged defense, so it works best against defenders who rely mainly on infantry. It carries 26 loot, so it suits plundering too. Thanks to defense 129 against ranged it does a fine job even in the castle when it isn't going anywhere, just don't leave it there permanently, it is a waste in the attack. Food upkeep is 4 per unit and the cost is 180.
What to combine it with
In the wave, complement it with a melee unit so the defender has to cover both sides. The Bear warrior from the same faction with attack 117 is the obvious choice. The bowmen then push on the ranged defense and the warriors on the melee defense. Add attack tools to the wave according to what the spy report shows. If you leave it in defense, it has only 54 against melee, so next to it you need melee defenders, for example the Veteran spearman or the Halberd.
Weaknesses and what to avoid
Don't count on it as a unit you can build up whenever you like. You receive it as reinforcement from your faction in the Battle for Berimond event, so you don't fully control its numbers. Don't send it alone at a target with strong ranged defense either, attack 98 won't break through there on its own. Against special ranged units like the Master bowman with attack 162, don't expect the same performance either. And with large numbers watch your food, 4 per unit shows with hundreds of units.
