A useful farming tool for experience during defense. It pays off mainly against large multi-wave attacks where the XP accumulates, not against small raids that yield almost nothing.

The Veteran Banner is a defensive tool that increases the amount of experience points you gain during defense. It won't win the battle for you or strengthen your units, so don't consider it a combat buff. It's purely a "farming" tool for faster leveling. If you're sitting on the walls and catching wave after wave, it makes sense. If you're just focused on maintaining the castle, it's better to use tools that actually strengthen the defense of walls and units.

How to use it

Deploy it in defense when you want to maximize the XP gained from an attack. Key limitation: you can only use it once per attacking wave, so it's best to use it against strong, multi-wave attacks where the experience can accumulate nicely. It's a waste to use it against a small raid that you can easily repel. Ideally, save it for sieges or moments when you're actively grinding for levels.

What to combine it with

It belongs to the "XP farming" defensive setup, not to a maximum defense setup. Combine it with tools that will actually hold the walls (defensive bonuses for units and walls) so that your defense lasts and you can harvest experience from it. It also complements well with another defensive hero or tools focused on resource gathering. Don't mix it with offensive tools; it has no place there. The goal is clear: withstand the attack and extract the maximum experience from it.

Pro player tipSave it for large coordinated attacks and sieges with multiple waves, not for isolated raids. Where three to four waves come at you in succession, you'll gain significantly more XP than from a single isolated wave. And preferably deploy it in defenses where you expect a real battle, not against weaklings that yield almost no experience.

Common mistakeThe most common mistake is to throw it into every defense thoughtlessly, especially against weak attacks where the XP gain is minimal. This just wastes the banner on a wave from which you won't get much. People also often forget the limit of "once per wave" and assume that the buff lasts for the entire battle across all waves. Keep in mind that the effect applies to the wave, not the entire attack.
