Quick overview
| Type | Defensive |
|---|
The Raider is a tool that carries a bit of confusion right from its classification - the game lists it as a defensive unit, but in practice, it is purely a raiding assistant. Its sole purpose is to gather more loot when plundering a castle. It significantly increases the amount of resources you take from a conquered castle, so you leave each successful raid with a fatter haul. It won't win the battle for you and won't reduce the defense, think of it as an economic supplement, not a combat unit. If you farm resources regularly, it's worth having it on hand.
How to use it
It belongs exclusively where you are focused on resources - plundering castles, marauding barons, or foreign players from whom you want to extract as much as possible. The key is that the bonus only takes effect after a victory: as long as the attack doesn't succeed and you don't take anything, it's as good as useless. Therefore, don't include it in raids where you are focused on points or reducing defense at all costs; it just takes up space there. It makes the most sense on targets that you repeat over and over, as that's where the increased loot accumulates the most.
What to combine it with
You will get the most out of it when you combine it with other effects on loot and carrying capacity - loot bonuses stack, allowing you to squeeze the maximum from a single raid. Likewise, support it with a proper attacking setup (ladders, battering ram, units according to the target type), because as long as the castle doesn't fall, it won't increase any loot. Here, its role is passive: it doesn't help conquer, it only multiplies the result once the conquest is handled by others.
