Portcullis

Defensive

A reliable foundation for gate defense that belongs in every proper defensive setup - but count on it as one slot out of the whole, never as the only defense.

Quick overview

TypeDefensive

The drawbridge is a classic defensive building that you should have in your castle from the moment real players start attacking you. It works simply: it significantly increases the protection of the castle gate, which is the point where the attacker flows in when they choose the wave at the gate. I consider it one of the cornerstones of defense - it's not anything exotic, but it does exactly what it should, and you can see it in the battle for the gate.

How to use it

You place the drawbridge in the castle's defensive setup in advance - you slot it into the tool slot, and from that moment on, it passively maintains the gate's protection; you don't have to activate anything manually. Therefore, have it ready in your setup before someone starts bothering you, not just when an attack is on its way to your castle. The gate is a section that attackers often target, and the drawbridge will precisely increase the defensive value there. In PvP, when defending against neighbors, and in holding captured positions, it is a reliable choice that you deploy and have the gate taken care of.

What to combine it with

On its own, the castle won't hold - it's just one of the defense slots. In the castle, you have separate defensive units and commanders alongside tools, so it's not the case that the units stand under the drawbridge - each holds their part of the defense independently. The drawbridge increases the gate's protection; add other tools that cover the front and side walls and other defensive values so that you don't have just one strong section and the rest weak. Complement it with numerous defensive units and a commander focused on defense. The drawbridge holds the gate, the units hold the line, and the commander multiplies it all.

Pro player tipWhen assembling tools into your setup, keep an eye on each one's defensive value and which section of the walls it strengthens. The drawbridge works on the gate, so consider it a block for this specific section, and cover the rest - the front wall and side walls - with other tools. Have your entire defensive set prepared in advance so that when an incoming attack occurs, you don't find out that you're missing a piece and can't catch up.
Common mistakeThe most common mistake is to leave the gate maxed out and the other sections of the walls empty. The attacker does not choose randomly - they will send a wave to the defensive value or wall where you have the least, and your great gate will then be of no concern to them. Another classic is to put the drawbridge into an offensive setup, where it is completely useless - it is purely a defensive tool and will bring you nothing in an attack.
