Defensive

A basic defensive tool for anyone defending a castle with ranged units, but only when you align it with the ranged units in the garrison.

Quick overview

TypeDefensive

The turret is a purely defensive tool that increases the defense of ranged units. When you have walls full of archers and crossbowmen, this is exactly the piece of equipment that keeps them alive longer. It does not attack on its own, but in defense, it is one of the things players rely on when protecting a castle or an important position.

How to use it

Always deploy it when building a defense based on ranged units. It makes sense anywhere you know the enemy will pressure you with ranged units or where you are relying on ranged units on the walls. When defending a castle, place it in the setup right next to other defensive tools to maximize the bonus for that type of units from each slot. Don't leave it in storage; defensive tools only work when you actually include them in your defense.

What to combine it with

It belongs to the ranged defensive setup, so combine it with your own ranged units on the walls and with other tools that strengthen ranged defense. Do not pair it with melee attacks or melee units, as it will not help you there. It is ideal to complement it with tools and units that also cover close defense, so the enemy cannot break through your defense with melee units while your ranged units hold.

Pro player tipBefore you slot it into the setup, check what units you actually have on the walls. The turret will only reward you with full walls of ranged units, so take it where archers and crossbowmen stand, not melee units. It works best when you treat it as a permanent part of your ranged garrison and build your defense around it, rather than just throwing it on top.
Common mistakeThe most common mistake is to throw the turret into the setup regardless of what units you are defending with. Players put it in a defense full of melee units and then wonder why the defense falls, as the bonus for ranged defense is useless on melee units. Another classic is leaving it completely in storage and not including it in the defense at all.
