Toolsmith – Goodgame Empire

Toolsmith

A quiet worker in the background that you don't need right away, but once you start your equipment production, you'll appreciate having it.

The Toolmaker is your small factory for producing components - small parts without which you cannot properly manufacture and upgrade equipment in the workshop. It does not build anything on its own nor defend the castle; it is a quiet support building: it supplies materials that you lack elsewhere. Players often underestimate it until they realize that it is the components that are slowing down their entire production chain.

When to build it

Don't rush to build it at the beginning. While you are dealing with resources, defense, and the first barracks, the Toolmaker can wait. It makes sense when you already have equipment production running and start feeling that you are running low on components or have to source them complicatedly elsewhere. Then build it and let it run quietly in the background. It takes up 5×5, so think about its placement so you don't have to rearrange half the castle because of it.

Is it worth upgrading?

Higher levels will increase your supply of components, so you won't have to wait as much - but it only pays off if you actually consume that production. If you are fully manufacturing equipment, feel free to upgrade it. If you only have it for the sake of having it, keep it at a lower level and invest elsewhere instead. Save the maximum fourth level for when your supply of components is actually holding you back.

Pro player tipSince it doesn't guard or defend anything on its own, feel free to place it on the edge of the castle or in a less exposed corner - save the protected spots for buildings that really need to be safe. Additionally, space here costs you nothing, so use it wisely.
Common mistakeThe most common mistake is to build it too early and then let it block space while you don't utilize the production anyway. The second classic is the opposite - the player overlooks that they are missing components and unnecessarily tries to buy or source materials more complicatedly than if they simply built and upgraded the Toolmaker.
