The Composite Archer Veteran is a defensive ranged unit that the game describes as very strong in defense against ranged troops. Defense of 183 against ranged is one of the highest values you'll put on walls, and 84 against melee gives a decent buffer even against infantry. Attack of 20 tells you it never goes out - its place is on the walls of a castle or base. You won't recruit it from barracks or unlock it through research, you only get it from special offers and events, and as a defender you'll meet it on the walls of famous invasion castles.
How to use it
Build it on positions where you expect raids built on archers and ranged units - there 183 will break practically every ranged wave. Food consumption of 3 is very low for such defense, so you can hold many of them without affecting your economy. Speed 25 only shows when moving between castles and bases - count on a slower journey. On a position, the total defense of all units matters, so build it in numbers, not one by one.
What to combine it with
The weaker side against melee (84) calls for supplementing with a melee defender, preferably the Flamethrower Veteran with 196 against infantry and the same food consumption. The ratio of both on a position should be based on what enemies usually hit you with. Defensive tools add a percentage bonus to unit defense and a castellan with ranged defense gear will push the 183 value even higher. A wall built this way will withstand even large coordinated attacks.
Weaknesses and what to avoid
Never send it to attack or resource gathering on the map - with 20 attack it can't do anything out there and you'll just lose it. Don't build it as the base of a position where enemies push mainly infantry and cavalry - there you won't use its main advantage and 84 melee alone won't hold the raid. And don't throw it into defense of bases you're not planning to seriously fight for - losses don't get replenished.
