Renegade swashbuckler – Goodgame Empire

Renegade swashbuckler

Offensive Melee Special

If you are a new player, consider it a solid addition to melee attack, just remember that it is purely an offensive specialist without defense, and invest stars in it only for attack. Experienced players will include it in offensive waves against defenses based on melee combat, always with ranged support against ranged defense. An attack of 166 is a decent base, but the final performance will come from stars, commanders, and tools. You can obtain it from special offers or events.

The Rebel Slayer is a purely melee offensive unit: attack 166, defense 11 against melee combat and only 3 against ranged attackers. For an event unit, this is a decent attack, but not top-tier; later elite and event units can easily exceed 200. The number 166 should also be considered as a base, as its real strength will be enhanced by stars, commander bonuses, and offensive tools. Its defense is so low that it never makes sense to place it in castle defense; it would only contribute 11 and 3.

How to use it

You deploy it in an offensive wave when you need as much melee attack as possible for the least number of slots. With an attack of 166, it can handle defenses primarily based on melee combat, but it won't do anything against ranged defenses on its own. The cost of 200 and a consumption of 6 food are completely normal for an event unit, so you don't have to worry about it draining your storages; just keep that in mind when assembling a larger army. A speed of 28 is average, so it won't slow down your wave during marches.

What to combine it with

Pair it with offensive tools (ladders, battering rams) and a commander focused on melee combat to get over walls and gates. Always add your own ranged units to the wave, as it won't fare well against archers and towers on its own; the ranged units will draw away the ranged defense while the slayers handle the melee combat. Maintain a reasonable ratio of melee attackers to ranged units based on what the target has in defense; don't cram everything into one type.

Weaknesses and what to avoid

Do not place it in castle defense; with a defense of 11 and 3, you will just unnecessarily lose an event unit, and the high attack number won't help you at all in defense, as defense must be handled by a unit with defense. Similarly, do not send it alone against a target full of towers and archers, where its defense of 3 against ranged attackers means quick losses, unless you have your own ranged units in the wave to absorb the ranged defense. In other words: a purely melee offensive specialist that needs support and the right target.

Pro player tipIf you want to upgrade it with stars, look at the distribution: stars primarily increase attack (4 stars for attack compared to 1 for defense), so investing in stars makes sense exclusively for offensive use; you won't get much more from it in defense. Before each attack, check the layout of the target's defense: a predominance of melee combat is its strong suit, while a predominance of ranged units and towers means you should add more of your own ranged units upfront to break the ranged defense before the slayers engage.
Common mistakeThe most common mistake is to include it in defense just because of its high attack; that number won't add to anything useful in defense. The second is sending it without ranged support against a target full of ranged units and towers, where it will suffer heavy losses in combat against ranged defense. And the third, which even more advanced players make: pouring stars into the unit and then using it in defense, where you gain nothing from those stars because they mostly go into attack.
