The Forest Warrior is a purely offensive melee infantry unit with an attack of 185, which is a decent amount of offense for a unit that you buy for 400 resources and 5 food. Consider it as offensive expendable material for the first waves on the sword - its task is to deal damage, not to survive. Don't expect any durability from it.
How to use it
In practice, you deploy it in offensive waves against enemy melee defenses. An attack of 185 is decent for a special unit, but don't overestimate the number of a single unit - the breakthrough of the defense is determined by the total attack ratio of the entire wave against the target's defense, plus the tools and the correct flank setup. In sufficient numbers and with the right tools, Forest Warriors form a solid offensive core of the wave. A speed of 28 is in the range of regular melee infantry (swordsmen and similar are around the same), so it doesn't slow down your mixed army. It is suitable for raids, PvP targets, and against camps with defenses built for melee combat.
What to combine it with
Before you assemble a wave, read the target's defense - how much melee defense and how much ranged defense the opponent has. Based on that, you decide where to place the Forest Warriors. As a melee offensive unit, they typically belong in the flank or front line where the opponent has weaker sword defense. Combine them with offensive ranged units that cover the other half of the enemy's defense, and always add offensive tools (battering rams, ladders, siege towers depending on the target) that will reduce the defense and allow the attack to fully take effect. A leader with a bonus to melee attack will make them hit even harder.
Weaknesses and what to avoid
Do not use it for defense - a defense of 19 against melee and 5 against ranged means that it will quickly die on the walls and it's a waste of food and resources. Low defense against ranged units is standard for a purely offensive unit, so as an attacker, you don't have to fear it more than other offensive units, just don't send it solo against ranged defenses - there it will be shot down before you reach the walls. A common mistake is sending Forest Warriors alone without tools. And don't put it into long exhausting battles where endurance counts; it is not built for that.
