Dragon fire – Goodgame Empire

Dragon fire

Defensive Ranged Special

A reliable defensive shooter with balanced numbers against both shooters and melee combat, and especially with zero food consumption, which gives you an ideal permanent garrison for your walls. The numbers are not the highest you will encounter today, but the performance-to-zero-consumption ratio is excellent. It works best as the foundation of a balanced defense supplemented with tanks and tools, not alone.

Dragon Fire is a purely defensive shooter that you want on your walls. It holds 470 against shooters and 400 against melee combat, with an attack that is essentially zero (even at full stars, it's only 1), so forget about using it in the field. The main attraction, however, is its food consumption: zero. Not a single grain of grain, so you can fill your walls with these shooters and your production won't even budge because of them. This is a rarity for a quality defender.

How to use it

It belongs exclusively to the defense of castles or bastions, nowhere else. With an attack of 1, it is useless on expeditions and attacks, you would just waste your unit limit. Its numbers are balanced: 470 against shooters, 400 against melee combat, so it holds up well against both. When your opponent pressures you with firepower, it shows its best, but even a melee assault won't catch it off guard. But be realistic: 400/470 is solid, not top-tier. Today's top event defenders have higher numbers, so consider Dragon Fire as a reliable backbone, not an impenetrable wall.

What to combine it with

It cannot hold the defense alone. Even though it holds up well against shooters and melee, against a pure melee assault it needs tank defenders with even higher melee values beside it. The ideal setup is Dragon Fire as a base against shooters supplemented with heavy melee tanks. Don't forget about defensive tools on the walls (tar, cauldrons, towers) and defensive commanders, they will boost your numbers percentage-wise. And since it consumes nothing, you can mix it in a defensive setup with food-hungry elite defenders without overloading your granary.

Weaknesses and what to avoid

Don't put it in attack, that's the most common mistake. With an attack of 1 in the field, it does nothing, just blocks a spot. Also, don't rely solely on it: when the opponent attacks with a melee advantage, Dragon Fire alone won't hold your walls, you need a balanced defensive setup with tanks. And don't look for it in regular barracks, it's not there. It's a special unit that you obtain from special offers or events.

Pro player tipFood consumption is zero, so you don't have to worry about the troop limit due to grain, which is a huge advantage against most elite defenders. Feel free to fill your entire walls with it and production will remain in the plus. If you are a new player and this unit drops from an event, keep it and don't use it in attack even by mistake. It will last you a long time in defense and save a lot of food.
Common mistakeA common mistake is to throw Dragon Fire into attacking armies because it "looks strong". It has high numbers only in defense, an attack of 1 makes it dead weight in the field. The second mistake is to build the entire defense solely on it, but against a massive melee assault, 400 defense alone won't save you, you still need to supplement with tanks and defensive tools.
