The Cave Destroyer is a purely offensive melee infantry unit, and I'll tell you right away what to look for: attack 109, defense against melee 135, and defense against ranged 45. An attack of 109 is not impressive for a special offensive unit; it's more average to below average, so don't expect superhuman damage from it. The main value of this unit lies elsewhere: it has a food consumption of 0 and a decent melee defense of 135, which allows it to last longer in battles against swordsmen. The defense against ranged 45 is among the lowest you'll encounter, and that's its Achilles' heel.
How to use it
Deploy it as a melee wave where the spy reports that the defense is mainly close-range. Thanks to the defense of 135 against melee, it will survive exchanges with regular swordsmen better than many attackers, allowing it to stay longer at the wall and deal more damage. A food consumption of 0 means it won't burden your economy, no matter how many you have, and honestly, that's its biggest draw, not the attack numbers. Keep it on sectors with melee defense. Where the opponent has placed ranged units, it has no role.
What to combine it with
Do not send it into attack alone. Mix it into a wave with strong offensive ranged units that will clear out enemy archers while the Destroyers hold the melee line and eliminate close defenders. A classic setup is a melee attacker (Destroyer) plus a ranged attacker in one wave, with the ratio depending on what predominates on that wall. Add an offensive commander with bonuses to attack and gate. Since it doesn't consume food, it also serves as a cheap filler for regular barracks attackers, for whom you would otherwise have to monitor supplies.
Weaknesses and what to avoid
Do not send it against defenses built on ranged units, period. With a defense of 45 against ranged, one stronger offensive archer is enough to decimate a whole bunch in a single wave. It is also not a defensive unit for castles; despite its melee defense of 135, specialized defenders belong on defense. And it is completely useless for castle defense against ranged units.
