Decayed Axe Bearer – Goodgame Empire

Decayed Axe Bearer

Defensive Melee Special

A solid defensive specialist for melee with a defense of 300 and zero food consumption, which you want to have if you encounter it in a special offer or event. It is not a universal unit and will not protect you from ranged units on its own, but as the backbone of a balanced defense supplemented with anti-ranged units, it will do a great job. If you are a new player, consider it as a reliable defensive foundation to which you can fine-tune the rest.

The Rotten Axe Carrier is purely a defensive melee infantry unit, and its main asset is a melee defense of 300. This is a number that comes in handy when building the defense of a castle or an important outpost and you want foot soldiers that can withstand melee attacks. It has an attack of only 81, so don't expect anything in the field; this unit exists exclusively to stand on the walls and hold the line.

How to use it

Deploy it exclusively in defense and keep it at home on the walls. It works best against attackers focused on melee, where it can fully utilize its 300 defense. A big plus is its zero food consumption, but I'll get into that more in the tip where it makes the most sense. Don't worry about its speed of 34; for a defensive unit that you keep in one place, it's a secondary stat that you will never actually look at.

What to combine it with

The key is to supplement it with defense against ranged units, as it has only 30 defense against them and is completely vulnerable. Mix Rotten Axe Carriers with units that have high defense against ranged attacks (typically crossbowmen or specialized defenders against ranged units of your choice), and you will cover both types of attacks at once. The attacker will then find no weakness to target. Additionally, add defensive tools to the walls and a commander with defensive skills for melee, so that the three hundred can be further amplified.

Weaknesses and what to avoid

Never send it to attack; an attack of 81 is laughable and will just die unnecessarily in the field. The second thing to watch out for is the aforementioned defense against ranged units of 30 from combos, so never build a defense solely from these foot soldiers and remember to add anti-ranged units. Also, don't expect it from regular barracks; it is a special unit that you can obtain from special offers or events, and you don't have it for a constant supply.

Pro player tipThis is where the zero food consumption comes into play, which is its best feature. Stuff it into the defense of a secondary castle or outpost that you don't want to feed with expensive food-consuming units, and you'll see a difference in your economy. You can stockpile hundreds of them, and your food won't budge. Keep a supply at home and always reinforce your defense when you expect a raid.
Common mistakeA common mistake is to send it into an attacking army because a player sees the number 300 and thinks it is universally strong. However, 300 is defense, not attack, and in an attack, it will only have that poor 81 left. Another typical mistake is that someone builds an entire defense solely from these foot soldiers, and an attacker with ranged units will shred it because you only have 30 against them.
