Corrupted veteran halberdier – Goodgame Empire

Corrupted veteran halberdier

Defensive Melee Veteran

One of the toughest defenders against infantry you can have, and with low food consumption. Alone against ranged it's not enough, but with ranged defense next to it it's excellent. If you get it from an event or special offer, it belongs in the main castle, not in attack.

The Infected Halberdier Veteran is a special defensive infantry with 145 defense against melee and 60 against ranged. The game describes it as a very strong defender ideal against melee attackers and those numbers confirm it. Attack of 15 gives it a clear role - it stands behind walls and holds, whether at home in the castle or in a base.

How to use it

Build it into defense on infantry slots where you expect melee-led attacks, that is against players who attack with swordsmen, sabre warriors and similar units. With 145 defense, melee attacks break against it and the attacker pays in losses. Food consumption of only 3 per unit is a big advantage for such a tough defender - you can hold many of them without your supplies dropping.

What to combine it with

Never build a wall from just this unit. Supplement it with defensive ranged units, ideally the Infected Archer Veteran, which with 134 defense against ranged fills exactly the spot where the halberdier has only 60. Defensive tools on walls and a castellan with melee defense bonus will raise the already high base and the attacker needs significantly more superiority.

Weaknesses and what to avoid

Don't send it to attack - with 15 attack it will kill almost nothing there and will just fall. Don't rely on it against armies made mainly of ranged units either - 60 defense against them isn't a disaster, but without ranged support you lose units that can't be replenished from barracks. And don't put it in garrison of targets you don't care about - cheap infantry is enough there.

Pro player tipRead battle reports. When an enemy hits you mainly with infantry, add defensive ranged units to that flank and add halberdiers; when they switch to ranged, flip the ratio again. Speed 32 helps when you send it as support to an ally expecting an infantry attack - it arrives in time and holds their flank where they'd otherwise bleed.
Common mistakeThe most common mistake is stuffing defense with just halberdiers because they have the biggest number. The attacker then sends all ranged units, finds only 60 everywhere on the wall and breaks through. The second mistake is taking it as a universal soldier and sending it on marches where its defense doesn't matter. It's a defender and nothing else.
