Corrupted Subject

Defensive Melee Special

A reliable melee defensive unit with good melee defense of 300 and usable ranged defense of 240 (300 is a solid value, not exceptional, but sufficient for regular wall defense). It needs support against pure ranged attacks; otherwise, it is a maintenance-free defense that you can stack in the garrison in large numbers due to zero food consumption. If you have it from a special offer or event, feel free to include it in the defense and invest stars in defenses where it has a maximum rating.

The Corrupted Unit is a purely defensive melee infantry with a solid defensive profile: melee defense 300 and ranged defense 240. The attack of 30 is purely symbolic, so consider it a unit for garrison, not for an offensive wave. It's worth mentioning right away: the difference between melee defense (300) and ranged (240) is small, just a quarter, so it's not a unit that would be particularly afraid of archers. It holds up decently against both, just a bit better against melee attacks.

How to use it

Deploy it in the defense of a castle or forward positions, where it should sit and hold the line. The melee defense of 300 applies against all melee attackers, not just swordsmen, so it holds the front line against melee units in general. The ranged defense of 240 is also a usable value, not a hole in the defense, so it will survive mixed attacks and won't collapse as soon as the opponent throws in archers. When compared to dedicated anti-ranged defenses, it does a slightly lesser job against pure ranged attacks, but as a universal melee defense for walls, it is reliable.

What to combine it with

It works best in a mix, not solo. Build the melee part of the defensive wall from it and complement it with a unit that has higher ranged defense, so you cover both types of attacks. By itself, it can handle a melee onslaught, but when the opponent pushes with an overwhelming number of archers, you want a specialized anti-ranged defense next to it that can withstand better. On the walls, support it with defensive tools (boiling oil, parapets, towers) and commanders who boost the garrison's defense. Keep offensive commanders with it, as its attack of 30 won't help you anyway.

Weaknesses and what to avoid

Do not send it into attack or for loot collection, as its attack of 30 makes it dead weight in an offensive wave. And do not rely on it as the sole defense in a castle, as it needs to be supplemented with specialized defense against pure ranged attacks. You don't need to worry about its speed of 34, as you won't be moving a purely defensive unit anywhere, so for this unit, speed is practically irrelevant.

Pro player tipZero food consumption means you can keep it in the garrison in large numbers without it consuming supplies; the only limit is the garrison capacity. For event and special defenses, zero food is common, so don't take it as a unique advantage, rather as a convenience. Rotate other event units around the permanent core of the defense based on what the opponent sends, so you have balanced coverage of melee and ranged.
Common mistakeThe most common mistake is throwing it into offensive campaigns because it looks strong on paper, but an attack of 30 is useless in offense. The second mistake is overestimating its difference against ranged units; 240 is a decent number, not a weakness, so panic like 'my castle will fall to a ranged attack' is exaggerated if you have your defense reasonably mixed. Address the weakness against pure ranged by supplementing it with a partner, not by writing off the unit.
