How to collect shards and level up generals in the Generals' Inn
Generals arrived in the game in October 2022, and from level 10 onward they are now one of the strongest permanent progression systems. You unlock and upgrade them with shards, which you earn in the Generals' Inn in exchange for so-called offerings. This guide explains how the inn and its raffle work, which offerings belong to which general, how many shards you need for each star, and the fastest way to pour experience into your generals.
How the Generals' Inn works
You'll find the inn through the Encampment or the generals overview on the bottom bar. Inside sit the regulars and the generals you hand offerings to, and every offering you hand over triggers a raffle that gives you four rewards. The most valuable prize is general shards: with these you unlock a general and then raise his stars. Besides shards, the raffle also drops general XP and more offerings.
The key thing is the free offerings: at regular intervals you can chat with the regulars for free and receive an offering without paying. Free rounds don't stack, though. If you don't claim a free round, the next one doesn't start charging. Anyone who only looks into the inn once a week misses out on most of their free turns. Since September 2023 you can use bulk offering of up to 100 offerings at once (you need at least 3 pieces), so hoarding offerings from events is no longer clicking hell.
You get offerings for free in the inn (cooldowns below), from events, from random special offers, in the Sale shop, from the Master Blacksmith (the Sceat shop and the LTPE shop) and from the Wheel of Unimaginable Affluence. There are currently 14 types of offerings.
The basic offerings to Ludwig, Ulrich and Beatrice
The three basic offerings cover the five original generals (Horatio, Alyssa, Leo, Toril, Sasaki). Each offering has a high chance of shards for "its" generals, but it can also give shards of the other basic generals or another offering:
| Offering | Mainly for | General rarity | Free offerings | Free offering cooldown | Ruby price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Offering to Ludwig | Alyssa and Leo | rare | 2 | 3 days | 12,999 |
| Offering to Ulrich | Horatio | epic | 1 | 7 days | 32,999 |
| Offering to Beatrice | Toril | legendary | 1 | 15 days | 69,999 |
| Sasaki Offering to Beatrice | Sasaki | legendary | — | — | 99,999 |
Every player gets Horatio automatically (and again every time you enter the Outer Realms). At the Master Blacksmith you'll also find offerings for Sceat: 10x Ludwig for 600 Sceat (3x per event), 6x Ulrich for 700 (2x) and 2x Beatrice for 800 (1x). In the LTPE shop of the Grand Events it's 10x Ludwig for 6,000, 6x Ulrich for 3,000 and 2x Beatrice for 4,000 of the point currency.
Premium generals and their offerings
Since 2025, premium generals have been arriving, and their offerings show up mainly in special offers, ruby offers, Super Sale promotions and events. As of December 2025 there are 16 generals in the game in total. Premium offerings also give a chance at the basic offerings (Ludwig, Ulrich, Beatrice), so they are never completely "off build":
| Offering | General | Rarity |
|---|---|---|
| Tom and Alice's Offering to Ludwig | Tom and Alice | common |
| Garrik's Offering to Ludwig | Garrik | common |
| Edric's Offering to Ludwig | Edric | common |
| Hasan's Offering to Ludwig | Hasan | rare |
| Valenta's Offering to Ludwig | Valenta | rare |
| Tizi's Offering to Ulrich | Tizi | epic |
| Diana's Offering to Ulrich | Diana | epic |
| Barin's Offering to Ulrich | Barin | epic |
| Ashira's Offering to Ulrich | Ashira | epic |
| Kaelrith's Offering to Beatrice | Kaelrith | legendary |
Ashira's offerings are currently dropping in bulk from the Rift Raid event (20 to 30 pieces for point thresholds, 50 to 55 from the boss-kill rewards). If your alliance plays Rift Raid, Ashira is the cheapest route to a new epic general.
How many shards you need for each star
Every general has 10 stars and a maximum of 100 levels (the exception: common generals top out at level 60 and 5 stars). The stars are silver first, then gold. Shard counts for each star by general:
| Star | Tom, Alice, Garrik, Edric | Alyssa, Leo, Hasan, Valenta | Tizi, Diana, Barin, Ashira | Horatio | Toril, Sasaki, Kaelrith |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Unlock | 80 | 100 | 120 | 0 | 150 |
| 1 | 120 | 150 | 185 | 185 | 225 |
| 2 | 160 | 200 | 245 | 245 | 300 |
| 3 | 240 | 300 | 365 | 365 | 450 |
| 4 | 320 | 400 | 485 | 485 | 600 |
| 5 | 400 | 500 | 600 | 600 | 750 |
| 6 | — | 800 | 1,000 | 1,000 | 1,200 |
| 7 | — | 1,500 | 2,000 | 2,000 | 2,500 |
| 8 | — | 2,500 | 3,200 | 3,200 | 4,000 |
| 9 | — | 4,000 | 4,800 | 4,800 | 6,000 |
| 10 | — | 6,000 | 7,000 | 7,000 | 9,000 |
| Total | 1,320 | 16,450 | 19,880–20,000 | 19,880 | 25,175 |
The numbers speak for themselves: you max out a common general for 1,320 shards, a legendary one for 25,175. The first five stars are relatively cheap for everyone; the turning point comes at the sixth star, where the price jumps sharply. That's why it makes sense to bring more generals up to 5 stars rather than pouring everything into one.
General XP from the first 20 attacks a day
A general collects XP from attacks, but only from the first 20 attacks each day, and the value drops steeply. The first attack of the day gives 600 XP, the second 100, the third 80, and from the fourteenth attack onward only 10 XP. Over a whole day you'll squeeze at most 1,283 XP out of attacks. Attacks on event targets give more than the base values. The second cap: at levels ending in zero (10, 20, 30 ... 90) a general stops taking XP until you raise his star with shards.
How much XP each block of ten levels costs (by general rarity):
| Levels | Common | Rare | Epic | Legendary |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1–10 | 13,500 | 27,000 | 32,400 | 40,500 |
| 11–20 | 38,750 | 77,500 | 93,000 | 116,250 |
| 21–30 | 63,750 | 127,500 | 153,000 | 191,250 |
| 31–40 | 88,750 | 177,500 | 213,000 | 266,250 |
| 41–50 | 127,500 | 255,000 | 306,000 | 382,500 |
| 51–60 | 177,500 | 355,000 | 426,000 | 532,500 |
| 61–70 | — | 1,171,000 | 1,444,000 | 1,807,000 |
| 71–80 | — | 2,121,000 | 2,684,000 | 3,357,000 |
| 81–90 | — | 3,764,000 | 4,785,000 | 5,981,000 |
| 91–100 | — | 6,402,000 | 8,069,000 | 10,088,000 |
| Total | 509,750 | 14,477,500 | 18,205,400 | 22,762,250 |
A legendary general needs over 22.7 million XP to reach max; from attacks alone (1,283 XP a day) that would take decades. The realistic route is XP boosts: items worth 500 and 1,000 XP (rare), 2,500 and 5,000 XP (epic) and 10,000 and 15,000 XP (legendary), which drop from the raffle in the inn, from events and from the Master Blacksmith. On top of that, Rift Raid showers you with boosts of 150,000 XP each.
Skills, abilities and the reset
Every general level = 1 point in the skill tree. In the tree you pick passive buffs, and unlocked skills open up abilities, active effects that you set on the general separately for attack and separately for defense. Every general has his own unique skill set, so two maxed-out generals are not interchangeable: one is good at breaking walls, another at defending the courtyard.
You can only reshuffle allocated points with a Generals skill reset token. It costs 2,250 rubies, or occasionally drops from turns in the inn. Before you start handing out points, think through the general's role; a 2,250-ruby reset for every experiment gets painful fast. In the generals overview you can also see battle statistics and the general's story.
